I just picked it up for 10 on humble bundle. Wondering if it's worth loading up...

Look at our profits, now look at our sales, now look back at our profits. Sadly, sales numbers aren't in line with our profits, but it could be, now that we've introduced FINECAST(tm), slashed staff and raised prices. Look at my hand, its our annual report... look again, the report is now DIAMONDS. Anything is possible when you invest with GW. (I'm issuing a dividend.)

The game had a troubled development history followed by a buggy and incomplete launch based on reviews I watched. I'm not sure it ever actually had the players to lose to begin with. I'm waiting for it to be released on consoles but who knows if it ever will. For $10 though, it's at least worth trying out.

I play it still.

It's fun but as the above poster says, it's had a hard development cycle - constant bugs - premature release.

For the moment it's just a little fun but if they actually complete everything they've planned, it'll be amazing. Imagine 40k planetside (when it's done) but currently it's more like 40k Battlefield.

I decided to go for it on the $10 humble bundle sale. Enjoying it, buy it seems they ripped alot of basic mechanics from space Marine.

I've had it since it came out, and maybe actually fired it up and played a few rounds like 3 times. Its really been a let down for me, Space Marine had better multiplayer.

The Eye of Terror. More specifically, Silvermoon City.

Its core gameplay and visual design remains thoroughly inferior to Space Marine. If I want some 40k shooting I might as well play that instead.

Clunky animations, models that look a decade old, absurdly low TTK (which is necessary due to how shallow the combat is). It is a blatant cash grab, so bad it is borderline offensive (not least due to how it first attempted the dream of a 40K MMO only to bait and switch.)

Imagine that you’re sitting down to dinner with your family, and while everyone else gets a serving of the meal, you don’t get any. So you say “I should get my fair share.” And as a direct response to this, your dad corrects you, saying, “everyone should get their fair share.” Now, that’s a wonderful sentiment — indeed, everyone should, and that was kinda your point in the first place: that you should be a part of everyone, and you should get your fair share also. However, dad’s smart-!@# comment just dismissed you and didn’t solve the problem that you still haven’t gotten any!

The problem is that the statement “I should get my fair share” had an implicit “too” at the end: “I should get my fair share, too, just like everyone else.” But your dad’s response treated your statement as though you meant “only I should get my fair share”, which clearly was not your intention. As a result, his statement that “everyone should get their fair share,” while true, only served to ignore the problem you were trying to point out.

That is why we need feminism, and why I am not simply egalitarian.

Well, I'll disagree - I think the multiplayer is much better than Space Marine, as well as being still in development with patches and content being rolled out - unlike the very dead Space Marine.

Space Marine is dead because its not a supported game anymore, plus I'd reckon how they had peer to peer multiplayer on PC rather than dedicated servers. That and it never really had that big of a player base, much like Eternal Crusade.

The main reason I'd wager alot of people keep playing EC is because they feel obligated after throwing so much money in the fire getting it off the ground.

Space Marine died on PC due to peer to peer being loathed by PC gamers and being unsustainable. On xbox in NA, you could find games up until late 2015 to early 2016 consistently due to the diehard playerbase and consoles using peer to peer almost always. EC is a money sink due to preordering gak via the founder packs and then the entire scope of the game was cut. It's hemorrhaging players and money these days and Bandai made them launch after enough excuses and delayed development. A launch they were unprepared for.

All the players who cared aside from a minor few have mostly moved on. Not to mention the replacement Dev team is a joke. This is Katie's first ever HR post having no background or schooling in said position, Nathan is a no man who changes the game to suit his vision and not 40ks lore, and is a bit annoying/edgy. They constantly distract and divert attention away from Brent or whatever his name is, especially in the twitch development streams because he's one of the few people still working on the game.

It's player base is actually pretty stable. Its hardly a roaring success but its not dead yet.
http://steamcharts.com/app/375230#1y

I gave it another go a couple of weeks ago and while it is (slightly) better than at launch its not something that I have any interest in playing again. Balance issues and badly designed and implemented mechanics make it mediocre at best.

Gee, the same flipping chart y'all see. If it's so healthy, why did the 1200 players in the playerbase outright leave, leaving only this token playerbase? This is so "healthy," for a game that just came out. It's going to trickle away just like Space Marine, and it will do it a lot quicker unless changes happen. Right now, it's the shell of a game with potential and most interviews back up this point of view.

Even IGN gave it a bad review. http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/10/05/warhammer-40000-eternal-crusade-review

Here, lemme google that for you. https://www.google.com/search?q=reviews+eternal+crusade&rlz=1C1CHZL_enUS689US689&oq=reviews+eternal+crusade&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i65l2j69i60j69i61l2.3206j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Or just take a cursory glance at steam's reviews. All thumbs down if within the half year mark. Most positive reviews prior to the abortion that was "launch." The chart below backs me up, and it's the same one you linked. It dropped almost it's entire launch playerbase. It's the same diehard few locked in by spending too much on founder packs and captain packs because they got scammed. They keep thinking if they keep playing they'll get their money worth when the developers have admitted to a negative money situation on stream, hence all the cuts and the need for the "launch," in the first place. Along with Bandai pulling the life support plug, forcing them to launch after requesting a delay. Here we are months later, trying to say a downward arc over several months is healthy. That is how most games decline and if no improvements happen again, it will trickle away like Space Marine, many other games from other companies and even fledgling MMOs that never took off. Though to compare this game to an MMO is blasphemy, as it's a Battlefield style shooter not a true MMO and that in and of itself is a scam, as they claimed it was an MMO.

It's not.

As does every game. Its obviously not doing particularly well but then again its not doing particularly badly.

I have no idea if it has made its development costs back though.

It did not, even with the founder's pack scam and refund date that was moved by four days, effectively breaching contract. The entire reason the release came so fast and hard on these guys, even though they knew there was a vague "Summer 2016," mark, Bandai came out of the blue and told them "alright lads, forget what you're working on. This is costing us money, release it."

Thus, the reason the MMO aspect was cut was because when it came time to release, the game simply wasn't ready. Nathan and his team at BHVR had already been in talks with Bandai to extend it and due to the beleaguered development team being swapped out (Nathan replacing Miguel and many staff members being replaced,) and the game being a money sink - pushed for the release and cut costs as a publisher.

BHVR, the company that made this also hasn't really made a single game but Mercenaries 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behaviour_Interactive For the few AAA games, (such as Shadows of Mordor, and most of the others on the list), it was simply loaning out an employee or two, hence why they are on the list. Those games were not made by them. Only slight assistance was loaned out but, wikipedia still allows them on the list for co-opting work.

(Here is who made Shadows.)

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Developer(s) Monolith Productions
Publisher(s) Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Director(s) Michael de Plater
Producer(s) Michael Forgey

See? Not BHVR. They've never churned out good work, they're a dodgy corporation. You also can't refute my logic and just say that's normal. Of course it's bloody normal but NOT WITHIN THE FIRST HALF YEAR OF A HEALTHY GAME. It shouldn't have lost 2/3rds of it's playerbase! Nor be IN DEBT. Nathan and his team have many features they wish to impliment and dodge questions now due to being unable to do so. This is from a self-admitted budget shortfall. They dicked around, didn't finish this steaming abortion, begged for more money and time and got told no. The game released. What you see, is what you get unless Brent (a dev,) adds more in. During Christmas break, on their discord that they share with the public (for those of you that are unaware, Discord is like if skype was merged with teamspeak and made a baby,) that they had ONLY FOUR DEVS. And they all worked, continuously the entire holiday. All the weekdays and weekends, just to crank an update out!

That's not a sign of a healthy game. You want to know what other game is like this at the moment? Planetside 2. The difference is, it's been up since 2013. It's natural for it to die now and the company that runs it, Daybreak, bought it from Sony. So not only did that game survive for years with the MMO aspect this game is trying to copy (but, failing at by the way,) but, it is only now after years entering the decline and there are still countermeasures they can deploy to keep the game alive, even on low funds and admitting they are in a "balancing stage now, rather than making new gameplay and drawing new players in." And that's after a complete shift of owners.

Lastly, let me riddle you this. If a game launches at 60$, and it has to go on sale a few months later for 8$, is it really a good, critically acclaimed success?

No. It's lost it's players, it's way, and it is drowning.

Is anyone really surprised by this last desperate gasp for breath? I'm curious if the supposedly "upcoming" console version will go F2P before release or if it's cancelled? Or, in the shadiest of all moves, will be sold at $60 to make some quick cash and then go F2P?

It went Free to play, so console will probably be cancelled or 60$ and then F2P. Also on console, probably P2P.

I play it, but after its public launch it's pretty much crashed and burned.

If they don't fix the server issues they're going to fail.

Good faith is a prerequisite for civility. In its absence, "Go Feth Yourself" is not only an acceptable response, it is the only appropriate response and, really, the only possible response. Social media isn’t characterized by rampant incivility because people have bad manners. It looks like that because epidemic bad faith makes nicer manners impossible. So stop arguing in bad faith, or don't be surprised when people tell you to go feth yourself.
