Greetings Dakkathings. Be gentle. I am both new and currently without faction or alliance.

I am taking first steps towards Warhammer 40,000, so I am here seeking wisdom and guidance.

What I actually obtain will remain to be seen!

Welcome!

OOOOooo how exciting a blank canvas - some many choices!

Have you got any ideas at the minute what piques your interest? Mine always came from the storylines behind them.

You've joined at a really interesting time with the story arc evolving.

Andy

Start with some Space marines. Just one box to paint. Then go off and select a different army if you're more interested in them. But the SMs are a rite of passage.

(And cool)

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Welcome!

What armies are you interested in? Are you more interested in playing the game, painting, or just exploring the lore?

Either way, the Start Collecting boxes are a good place to start, if there's one you like the look of.

Thanks all! I have collected Space Marines in the dark and distant past, so I am not really wanting to do the same again.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Imperial Guard. I like the lore of the perennial underdog armed with the cheapest and most basic equipment, and sent off to have at the worst the galaxy has to offer. Lots of basic infantry supported by Sentinels (love me a walker I do).

I have just ordered my Codex 'Astra Militarum' (when did that happen?) and I am on the lookout for one of the core rules mini books on eBay. Don't really fancy dropping all that money for the three book box!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hey PLM,

I would agree with not chasing the rule old unless you defined a cheap one. GW are planing on dropping a new 8th Ed soon and rumours are aplenty about changes that will be made to declutter the rulebook.

Good luck with the guard army, interesting to hear what units you gravitate towards.

A good way to get cheap rules is as an ebook. If you have an ipad, it makes a good reference material when playing the game.

Also, there's a section of this forum for list building. People are generally very helpful and offer good feedback. I would encourage you to take advantage of that

My codex has arrived. Time to put together a 1000 point list and get building.
