Hey everybody, im new to Dakkadakka and i really have one buring question. How the heck do i deal with those godforsaken termies in a stormraven? Heres my army list.
- 2x Leman Russ (i can proxy to whatever i want) i usually play one with pask for all of his awesomeness (this game i had plasma sponsons and lascannon hull for both with an executioner for pask and an exterminator for the regular guy)
-A bane wolf (melta secondary)
- a chimera (a melta and multilaser)
- 2x squads of veterans
- a squad of rough riders
- ratlings
- storm troopers (lots of meltas on these guys this gaame)
- 3x heavy weapons teams
- a manticore
-a techpriest with a single servitor
- a single seninal (lascannon)
- we run a special add on where i play as the valhallan ice warriors so i gain a 5+ FNP on any infantry for an extra 5 points per model
Keep in mind that my friend lets me proxy pretty much any weapon on my vehicles, sponsons, hull mounts, ect
My "friend" (honestly this stupid stormraven is driving me to hate him)
-a single land raider (the one with the melta flame templates off the sides i dont remember the name)
- a land speeder
- 2 devestator squads, both basically a spam of lascannons
- his stupid freaking stormraven
- his squad of terminators completely decked out with chainfists and the shields.
- and i let him proxy trying out different HQ's
- he plays whichever chapter gets the feel no pain on everything and it will not die on characters and vehicles.
(we play on a pool table with train lines and trains as cover BTW)

Ok, so what happend last game to drive me to come running for help from you guys is that i literally lost having only done a single hit point to his stormraven. Thats it, everything else in my army was decimated. So he shoved the termies in the stormraven, and the devastators in the land raider. he got turn one and had immediately gotten himself well within range of my entire army with his stormraven. The first turn he stunned my manticore and left it on 1 HP and thats about it. My turn i spammed EVERYTHING i had that had any chance of penning his stormraven at it and only did that one hit-point. the next turn he dropped his termies and scooted his land raider up to my veterans and unloaded the devastators which promptly "devastated" both my bane wolf and my chimera. His stormraven and land raider happily mowed down all of my infantry. He then charged my ruses with his termies and decimated them in a single attack with his chain fists. Do you guys have any idea what the heck i am supposed to do here? Thank you guys for any support in this matter it will really help!

I guess every location or group of players has their own current meta to deal with. Which is great because you can learn a lot from us here. Now, with many others...A stormraven isn't exactly the toughest thing to bring down. But! Aside from what others may think...It's giving YOU a problem. I would try to take some ant-air. He will think twice about sticking those terminators in there once it crashes to the ground and kills everyone on board. Try taking a defense gun, maybe a hydra. Proxy your missile tank for a Hydra. Maybe take some pskyers with Divination powers for Prescience so you can try to hit him with heavy weapon teams. I'm not a guard player, but I know what kills my stormravens.

I would be sure to confirm you are playing both the Stormraven with Terminators and Devastators in the Land Raider correctly.

Unless you had the worst dice imaginable and he the best your report sounds like errors may have been made in both cases

Sounds like a couple of rules were missed or misunderstood.
Terminators can't be taken in a Stormraven, Devastators would need a 6 to hit deploying out of a Landraider (Heavy weapons snap fire)

Lets also point out the fact that short of him using the landing pad, the Stormraven HAS to be in reserves he cannot have it start on the field. All flyers HAVE to start in reserves. Which means it is impossible for him bring it up to your guys on the first turn.

If you are playing IG you might want to think about taking an ADL which would also give you a quad cannon, has interceptor and skyfire.

As mentioned already, the Hydra (or a squadron of two) is a great solution to AV 12 or less in the air, and having a quad gun on an ADL is another really useful solution as having a fortification can really help bolster your backline positioning.

I'd like to add that the best flyer defense is often a good flyer offense, as aircraft do not suffer penalties shooting at each other. The Vendetta is perhaps one of the best dogfighting units out there. Even if he jinks, there's still a good chance of getting a pen, several if he doesn't. Get an Immobilized followed by a 1 or 2 or straight up roll Explodes! and those termies are not going to be an issue, which is most feasible with full BS shots with AP 2.

If you can't kill the Storm Raven with only Skyfire weapons, don't waste your other weapons taking snapshots at it. Keep targeting his other ground forces and whittle them down. Blast the termies with all of your AP 2 once they disembark from the Storm Raven (unless it's an Assault vehicle? I wouldn't think it is, but I honestly don't know).

The stormraven is indeed an assault vehicle and has cap. 12 and can carry a dreadnought.

Your friend is not following codex or the rules at all is the primary issue.
