Just wanted to post a crazy guess at what GW might do for a future Death faction.
Spoiler:

Undead Cathay that mixes not-Chinese vampires with living warriors.

Reasons for this theory?

1. Cathay actually survived the End Times by turning the tide towards the end and then leaving the Old World on magic ships for parts unknown.(surprised the tar out of me when I read that)

2. Though many point to the Cathay emperor being a actual dragon there's alot of older evidence saying he was a vampire.

3. Lord Kragon noted the similarities of the new AoS maps and real-world eastern maps.

My theory: Cathay will do as the Lizardmen and Sky titans have done before them and leave the doomed old world via flying ships. Being a vampire the emperor will turn the remaining members to undead to survive the trip through the void. They will then land upon the realm of Fire and begin re-building their ancient empire while ruling over humans, allying with fellow undead and using not-chinese alchemy to make false Ur-gold to con the Fyreslayers into help in them make a foothold.

Whelp, that's my thoughts. Feel free to ridicule and tell me why I'm wrong.

Sounds like fun. Maybe they will be Chinese-mummies with Clay dolls as soldiers along side skeletons.

I would buy that.

I mean, fifty bucks is on the line.
There's no rule that says I can't.

I like that kind of crazy.

But I think GW has been moving away from armies that are a slightly fantasy version of a real world historical culture. So while a hypothetical Cathay might take some hints from Chinese mythology, I assume it would be pretty out there, not just clay soldiers and chinese vampires.

Still, I'd love to see what they would do with it.

Yeah, if Tomb Kings got their line discontinued (makes sense for some of those models....yeesh, but the Necrosphinx? Laaame...) then I can bet that armies like Cathay and Kislev and such are not going to come back without a SERIOUS overhaul to their aesthetic. Now....I am down, and I like this theory. Surprised there was ANYTHING on Cathay...figured GW wanted to sweep that all under the rug forever...

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

I am of the same mind if you read the first white dwarf they say the mortarchs and nagash were made in mind for the aesthetic of the undead in AOS. GW seem to be moving away from armies that look like slight fantasy versions. If Cathay got nothing at all and barely mentioned in whfb I don't think they will get something in AOS.
