Hi,
I am trying to figure out what shade would work best without painting and removing from the models. I am painting a necron immortal unit and I am trying to go for a Maynarkh Dynasty scheme, I've based the model with Screaming bell then added two thin coats of brass scorpion. now I am thinking what to shade with, the options I've come up with a nuln oil, fugean orange, agrax earth shade I also am consider a gloss of Bloodletter. any thoughts or advice would be great thanks

I had to look up the dynasty and colors in question but it seems obvious to use nuln oil. If you don't want to paint models and worry about stripping them, prime and paint some spare spruce, preferably some Portions that have some recessed areas for the shade to flow into and see which shade you like best. But if it were me, I'd go with nuln oil..thinned down with just a BIT of Lahmiam medium.

Thanks, so after shading would you apply more metallic colours? Hashnut copper seems a good choice to "brighten" after shades are applied.

Absolutely! Or you could highlight with the color you used as a basecoat for a more subtle highlight. Hashnut will give you a more stark highlight. Either way you can apply your highlight via drybrushing (my preferred method) or edge highlight with is cleaner and sharper, but more difficult and time consuming. Post some pictures in this thread when make some
Progress!!

For brassy colors I generally use a dark brown wash. Nuln Oil is more of a black-ish wash, though it's transparent enough to work.

thanks again for the comments, so i shaded the miniature and then I realized that the nuil oil bottle I had was gloss :( not the look I was going for so now I'm looking at striping it down and starting again.

Or you could just put a coat of matt varnish over the top?

Just drop it in 91% isopropyl alcohol for a day. All the paint will come off with very very minimal brushing. Won't touch the plastic. Just did it last night.
