Hello, fellow Dakkanauts. I'm building my first FoW army, and can't choose between 2 variants of StuG Batterie based on Grey Wolf book.

Variant Ein:
HQ:
StuG G = 95

Combat platoons:
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285

Infantry:
3 Pioneer squads; panzerfaust = 245

Rocket launcher platoon:
6 NW41; Kfz15 field car and Sd/Kfz 11 half-tracks = 205

Variant Zwei:
HQ:
StuG G; escort = 110

Combat platoons:
2 StuG G, StuH 42; escorts = 330
2 StuG G, StuH 42; escorts = 330

Infantry:
3 Sturm squads; 4 panzerfausts = 250
Infantry:
3 Sturm squads; 4 panzerfausts = 250

Rocket launcher platoon:
6 NW41; AT section = 230

I'm tending more toward first, but also is kinda afraid of somewhat numerous IS-2 and Panthers in my meta not to consider 2 psturm AT squads. Any advices are welocme.

Unless you can get some heavy tank hunters into the list, I prefer the first list.

If you're worried about Panthers and IS-2s in the meta, I don't see having 2 Sturmgrenadier platoons with Panzerfausts being too helpful. While they're great at holding ground for awhile, you only have the 2 StuG platoons as maneuver units amd the IS-2s or Panthers should be able to easily take them first and then sit back and shoot your infantry off the objective or let their own infantry mop up. The IS-2 has a breakthrough gun that ignores saves so it shouldn't take long for them to sit at short range and dig out your infantry.

With 3 StuG platoons, you've got more maneuver units to improve the chances of getting those flank shots. You only have 1 infantry platoon to kill, but if they stop to focus on your infantry, you should be able to threaten side/rear shots with your StuGs so they need to go after them first.

Couple thoughts...all based on v3 rules.

You have too many nebs. They are good, but 6 is not substantially better than 3. You are also an odd number of platoons, so that will hurt you in half in half off missions. If your meta has IS-2 and Panthers and you want something to at least give them pause, I would try a list something like this.

German Stug Batterie

Tank Company, from Grey Wolf, page 58

Compulsory StuG Batterie HQ (p.59) - CinC StuG G (95 pts)

Compulsory StuG Platoon (p.59) - Command StuG G, 2x StuG G, 3x Begleit Assault rifle (330 pts)

Compulsory StuG Platoon (p.59) - Command StuG G, 2x StuG G (285 pts)

Pionier Platoon (p.61) - Command Pioneer Rifle, 9x Pioneer Rifle (235 pts)
- Pioneer Supply Horse-drawn wagon (20 pts)

Tank-Hunter Platoon (p.153) - Command Hornisse, Hornisse (235 pts)

Sturm Platoon (p.53) - Command MG, 6x MG (180 pts)
- Upgrade Command SMG to Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)

Rocket Launcher Battery (p.159) - Command SMG, Observer Rifle, Kubelwagen, 3x 15cm NW41 rocket launcher (105 pts)
- Kfz 15 field car, Sd Kfz 11 half-track per gun (5 pts)

1500 Points, 6 Platoons

If you aren't married to Grey Wolf, Desperate Measures has some solid options to build German armor as well. You can do something similar, drop down to Trained, but get a bit more firepower out of it.

German Panzer Kampfgruppe (Trained Division)

Tank Company, from Desperate Measures, page 68

Compulsory Panzer Kampfguppe HQ (Trained) (p.69) - CinC StuG G (late), 2iC StuG G (late) (150 pts)

Compulsory Panzer Platoon (Trained) (p.70) - Command StuG G (late), 3x StuG G (late) (305 pts)

Compulsory Panzer Platoon (Trained) (p.70) - Command StuG G (late), 3x StuG G (late) (305 pts)

Panzer Platoon (Trained) (p.70) - Command Panzer IV/70 (V), 2x Panzer IV/70 (V) (340 pts)

Tracked Panzerspah Platoon (Trained) (p.85) - Command Panzer II L Luchs, 2x Panzer II L Luchs (90 pts)

Panzergrenadier Platoon (Trained) (p.74) - Command Panzerfaust MG, 6x Panzerfaust MG, 4x Sd Kfz 251/1 half-track (215 pts)
- Replace Sd Kfz 251/1 half-track with Sd Kfz 251/17 (2cm) half-track (5 pts)

Rocket Launcher Battery (Trained) (p.91) - Command SMG, Observer Rifle, Kubelwagen, 3x 15cm NW41 rocket launcher (85 pts)

1495 Points, 6 Platoons

I'm a fan of the Grey Wolf StuG Batterie, myself. People keep trying to talk me into other versions of the StuG list but I keep coming back to the Grey Wolf version.

Of your two options, I tend to prefer the first due to more tanks to work with. If you are playing v3 I'd also be concerned about the lack of any recce assets (IMO this is less of an issue under the v4 rules). For the Grey Wolf list that means Sturm Scout Platoon on motorcycles. You need to be a bit careful with these, as they are more fragile than the armored car based recce squads. My current 1500 point list is something like this:

HQ:
StuG G = 95

Combat platoons:
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285
2 StuG G, StuH 42 = 285

Support:
Sturm Platoon 3 squads; panzerfaust CMD = 190

Sturm Scout Platoon 2 squads; panzerfaust CMD = 190

Sturm Heavy Mortar Platoon; 4 12cm mortars, trucks = 165

1495 pts, 6 platoons

I admit the OP could cut down on the number of Nebs if he wants to spend the points elsewhere. I personally don't like fielding three though, as that means if you lose just one launcher you are dealing with a penalty for only two weapons. If the OP is facing a lot of heavy armor, it might well be a good idea to trade one platoon of StuGs for the 2 Hornisse Tank-Hunter Platoon. The other choices for that platoon are either too expensive (Elefant) or don't offer any real AT advantage over the StuG platoon (Marder, Jagdpanzer IV, Hetzer).

Thanks for your replies, I've almost made my mind, as I'm now dwelling into finns and their sturmis.
