Evening all,

A short show off post to end the weekend with these Perry Miniatures Queens Rangers Hussars.

A nice small unit of 6 AWI Loyalist Cavalry to add to the collection.

I found quite a bit of variation regarding the facings on these so I went for plain black with no piping, I also couldn't find any pics of the rear of the uniform so again went for plain black turn backs. Does anyone know the story really the facings ?

In your blog you said you painted acrylics for the riders and oils for the horses? Explain please.

Also, if you get a game in, I hope these loyalist boot lickers get dumped into the harbor with the tea!

Hi there,

As loyal servants of His Britannic Majesty these fine upstanding chaps will be victorious
Although I appreciate that opinion on thus unit may depend on point of origin !

Regards the paint, I have always painted horses with oil paints, it's considered old school these days but used to be "the" method.

Simply you cover the horse model in whatever you want as your lightest shade and let dry. Then cover the model with a darker colour and wipe off the excess (that's where the skill comes in) so the lighter colour is revealed on the higher parts of the model, because it's oil paint the colours naturally blend. I sometimes do 3 layers but mostly 2 is fine.

Any detail, like socks and reinstall, horse furniture I paint in with acrylic paints after the whole thing is dry and I mean really dry, I usually leave everything 10 days to be absolutely sure.

Cheers Ken
