Hello fellow AOS,ers

I would like to seek your advice. I am looking at entering a small tournament with a destruction list in two weeks time. I am going to have a Kunning Rukk in the list and due to lack of point need to run it as:

30 archers with a support maniak weirdboy

Or

40 archers without the wizard

The weird boy would give me the reroll however the 10 extra boyz would give me more bodies shots. Its a tough choice.

Appreciate any thoughts you can offer on the better option

I'd say go for the first configuration, as you get as many hits and can boost their survivability.. Also, if this is a newbie league or something friendly just don't bring the rukk altogether.

Thank you Lord Kragan,

Sounds good to me and gives me an excuse to buy the weirdboy model. As for the tournament I am expecting it to be flat out competative.

It is 2000 points so one rukk is good and should put up a good fight. After my last most recent tournament playing against skyerfire, settra with necro knights spam and 24 Kurnoth hunters is one list I am expecting a strong field.

I was wanting to run a full ironjaws list however alas, I cannot get them all painted in time for this one.

Thanks for the tips

Question, did the skryrefyre player know what they were doing and bring shockfist Stormfiends or were all three units warpfire projectors? Because that affects what I would recommend.

Hi Ninth,

Yes he did. Two groups were shooty, one melee with shockfists. He also had the one guy who started on the board on a bale tower.

That list is brutal and he won the tournament btw. I imagine that some of the lists I played against will go up in points when the GHB gets updated.

He was a really nice guy however and gave me tips as I am very new to playing AOS. He was a pleasure to play agaist despite my army getting smashed.

Do you mean a Balewind Vortex? If so, he needs to summon it during the game and he needs to have 100 Reinforcement Points in order to do so.

First of all, Ghaz has the right of it here.

Well if he was running 3 shooty then you could have had a counter-route, but since he knows to bring shockfists you are basically in the position of hoping he makes a mistake (or hoping you don't get matched up against him!). With that as the case I would recommend the 30 archers-weirdboy route as having the edge. The nice part about Bonesplittaz is their on-foot characters very much can hide behind thick enough mobs of infantry to deny the enemy line of sight, which is going to be critical if you go against kurnoth hunters or other shooting lists. That said its a very slim preference to just having 10 more boyz, so if you have a reason to take the latter I would do so.

Thats the one, the balewind vortex. He summoned it right up the back of his deployment zone.

The mission was Take and Hold.

Not much happened turn two and I grouped around my troops around my objective and move some more up the board a little. Again not much on my turn three and on his turn his whole army ported in with a rain of death. Two groups near my objective and one on his. Turn 4 he won the roll to go first and more masses of troops died. Two full rounds of death dealing was enough for him to clear my objective and end the game. I still two units near the objective but just out of range.

I never got to fire one shot back. Being very new to the game this was the first time i had played this mission.

While there was some bad luck I did learn a lot for the defeat (the objectives are everything). Also my bone splitters lost a lot of guys to bravery rolls and at two wounds a model that adds up. He was good and explained that I should have had the four units around my ojective all with men in range of it (I only had two so he focus on them).

I had only play two games prior to entering the tournament so I am still really green. It was a good experience with 4 out of the 5 opponents being great guys to play against. I learnt a lot from the weekend and lost 3 major victorys and won two major victories. All up I was very happy with that considering all of my opponents were very experienced players.
