Evening guys, if you are UK based

I have been trying to track down artwork from Mark Gibbons in the 2nd ed era but I only 2 codexes from then, eldar and nids

Does anybody know a good website for his artwork or can they post their favourites here?

Google image search Mark Gibbons. Oodles of goodness awaits. The first is that badass Arch Zealot from Necromunda.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The Marine concept work that Gibbons did for the 4th Ed Marine Codex was fantastic. Pretty sure his Devastator designs are what led to the modern day Centurions.

Funny I never thought this was his style. To do whole big pictures. Maybe I just couldn't see his |MG| sig so I think its not his

I always liked his bloodthirster, and the original Kharn picture he 'did' that had to be removed on the second print run. That and his vision of Nagash (not 40k I know), which was jaw dropping.

This is one of my favorites. Inspired me to start an Undead army way back in the day.

I cant find a bigger image but his Magus vs BA and Grey Knight Terminators artwork has always been one of my favourites

In addition to those already mentioned, these were some of his best. So characterful and highly detailed.

Spoiler:

Unfortunately most of these web pics dont do them justice

I also always felt his artworks made the miniatures come alive, they were more than just illustrations

What's the story about Kharn?

Hard to decide but this one is at least the most memorable for me.

@Casey's Law I honestly don't know the facts, all I remember was my gw manager at the time saying that basically they had overworked him and consequently some of the submitted work wasn't all his, I think amending other artists work, which is why it needed to be removed. Kharn was the only one I was aware of. Take it with a big pinch of salt, I know from being ex staff years after that gw managers often don't get told much of what happens in HQ, and some people obviously pass on rumours as facts.

Didn't he leave to do video game art? Then later they got him back, then made a bunch of massive cuts to the creative staff and got rid of him?
Dude is awesome, only stuff I like better than Adrain Smith is Mark Gibbons.

Do you mean this one? I have never heard of that incident before, which book's reprint? Codex: Chaos?

If memory serves, it was considered too derivative of another artist's piece.

Which one, I can't recall. But it's not been used since, I know that much.

Yeah that's the one. Second ed codex. It was replaced with a more cartoonish image of him.

Its the best art of Kharn. 100% scene setting and character building.

Ah for the days when they tried be less obviously EPIC about things and let the design speak for itself.

Difficult to choose, but this has everything, yet very little. What is it? A machine on a hill. But what does it say?

Oh, and this

I miss those days of underplayed suggestion. Dude is essentially the Gustave Dore of the 90s Nerd Generation.

Goodness me. I miss the days of these artworks.

I feel everything now is in poses of the models themselves, of course this can't be true. In fact its completely not true

The artwork that is coming out now is fantastic as well, but somehow it misses that little something. Character I believe is the word.

My point overall is I bloody love these art pieces lol and its nice to see other peoples takes on them as well.

The main dudes were Gibbons and Blanche in the 1st/2nd era right?

Anything by Gibbons is top-notch. If I had to pick from memory, I might say the colour image of Asmodai or the Chaos (terminator?) Champion.

They should put out posters of his art. I'd get some of those framed and put them on the walls of my Games Room. An art book of his stuff at the very least needs to be released.

He also made the Blood Claw pack leader illustration that was based by the miniature (that was in turn based on Andy Chambers, I think):

There's something familiar about the pose of the dead guy on the right ...

Are you planning on clarifying that any further?

Not sure what there is to clarify. The pose of the dead guy on the right reminds me of something. Possibly some famous painting, but I can't remember what, if it is.

When I googled it at first someone on another forum had said something about Nazi concentration camps, no source though, sounds like they were just getting a bit excited. However false, I can see the similarities.

My fav was of his was always the Chaos World eater in terminator armour that was the WD cover. I think it had a green background. The one of the WE standing on the field of skulls was fething amazing also.
