Hello there, this is my first attempt at a proper army. I've attempted to shoehorn two Demi companies into this for the command bonuses, and I think I've been reasonable successful, although I'm not sure about competitive viability and am sure this list could be tweaked.

Firstly, welcome to Dakka!

There's really not going to be much in the way of wiggle-room to fit a full company into 1250, but I can at least help free up some space - the assault squads are priced wrong as they can't have jump packs if they are taking a DP. The Typhoon is also incorrectly priced (75 instead of 70), so you've got 25 points to spare.

With tactical sergeants two and five I'd probably stick to the boltgun rather than pistol / chainsword. Anything that can kill 5 marines is going to do so regardless of an extra attack in melee, but keeping the bolter allows extra attacks for more of the game (extra range, rapid fire, overwatch). YMMV.

Dropped multi-meltas are something I don't think are a great idea, but I see them in enough lists that there must be some sort of effectiveness behind the tactic. Consider moving the plasma cannons to two tactical squads that will camp back-field objectives.

Thank you for the welcome and for the pointers there--being a newbie is a might intimidating. I corrected the point values, and swapped the plasma cannons back as suggested. As of right now, I've added the 25 points into the Ravenwing Bike Squad for slightly better morale resilience. Not sure if I could be spending them better, though. I did toy with dropping down to three bikes to better arm my HB razorbacks, but three bikes seems rather underwhelming as a presence.

There is a basic spectrum of whether to add bodies or to add upgrades - the "boys before toys" addage, however it is possible to have not enough toys and too many boys - your army as it stands has (comparitively) high resilience - many T4 3+ wounds and vehicles for 1250.
However, it lacks much in the way of dangerous firepower in any meaningful way, so you're basically going to sit on objectives whilst your opponent removes your units one at a time, and hope that you've scored enough points to offset the casualties (dependant on game type).
Three bikers may seem underwhelming, but you're not reliant on their teleport homers, so their only purpose is to annoy things and flat-out onto objectives, but holding objectives is sort of why you've got 20 objective secured units in the list already. Use the points to add firepower to the army - grav guns on the bikers, flamers on the assault squads, plasma or grav on the tacticals - weapons that can take out dangerous things in the opponent's army.

That's my 2c, hopefully someone with more battle company experience will chime in.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but does it make more sense to throw toys onto vehicles first, or squads? 50 points could easily fuel two twin linked ACs, while leaving flamer room on assault squads. On the other hand, going squads could fill a fair few of those tactical squad gaps that you mentioned.

..Yeah, I'm a total noob, I know. lol.

Edit: After doing some poking around, I made some significant changes: namely dropping the Ravenwing for a much cheaper 5 man scout squad, and funneling those extra points to boost the Devastators to 2x Grav Cannons and a Rhino, then using the remaining points to give flamers to the assault marines, as well as meltaguns to four of the tac squads, and flamers to the remaining two.

I think at 1250, this is a pretty solid list. Don't forget to use the signum on the dev squads to make one Gravcannon shoot with +1 BS. Seems like a lot of people forget this. I ran something almost exactly like this at a similar points value and did fairly well.

As far as vehicles vs. squads i think it depends. I don't upgrade razorbacks until they are free then go from there, mainly because they die pretty quickly. I don't think upgrading them here is necessarily a bad thing or wrong but I tend to favor giving squads weapons first just because the razorback comes with a TLHB, at least with larger points values. 1250 its a tough call IMHO.

Here, for example, if you left the razorbacks stock that would free up 120 points. That could be a command squad with three melta guns in a drop pod. This would give you 2 more obsec units, 3 pods so you know 2 are coming in now instead of one, but you are swapping the TLLC AT for 1 squad with melta guns which may or may not be more effective. Again, whether or not you want to do this will depend on what works for you so I'd play with whatever list you go with a few times before making changes.

That being said I still think this is a solid list as is. 4 TLLC and 2 TLAC can do some work. Just remember to keep them in cover as best you can. Also, don't get fixated on shooting whats directly in front of the razorbacks. Best thing about this set up is being able to shoot across the board so you can get a lot more flank/side armor shots.
