Hi guys

So, I have decided to finally start an Ironjaws army.
Regarding the 6+ save, Ard Boys get for carrying shields. Do you roll for it before or after your normal save, and does it count for both normal and mortal wounds or just normal wounds?

Thanks in advance!
Cheers!

You'd make the 6+ save after rolling the regular save and then for the amount of wounds you'd suffer (so a dam 3 weapon would result in 3 rolls). It counts only for regular wounds, AOS scrolls are pretty straitforward in this matter, most of the time making the difference between the two.

Thanks man. That was what I thought. But nice to have it verified

In my honest opinion, dual choppas and big choppas will serve you better UNLESS you run BIG blobs (30 men) where I recommend you shield the rear blobs.

Interresting. I was planning on this for a starter list:

Megaboss- bellowing tyrant or ravager with talisman

Warchanter

20 'ard Boys - command, 10 dual choppas, 5 big choppas and 5 with choppa and shield

3 gore gruntas- choppas

5 Brutes- 3 with dual choppas, 1 gore choppa and boss with klaw and smasha

All 3 units in an ironfist formation for maximum speed. 1000 points. How does that look?

Almost like my average list (ran 10 dual choppas and 10 big choppas instead).

It is good, but you can do worse: namely you could swap the gruntas for another unit of brutes and swap the shields for another choppa. At size 20 you shouldn't have too much trouble getting them in combat but I think you should split them into 2 ten men squads. Ardboyz are not meant to be murderblobs, but be the screen that defends your army so in certain missions you'd like to be flexible.

That makes sense. Actually the only reason I have the gruntas in the list, is because I was planning to buy the get started! Box. It seems like at very good deal to me, and since one of the guys in my group have 10 old Black orcs, I only need to buy the Box, brutes and a Megaboss. Btw. Do you have any experience with the wierdfist formation? It seems like it has potential to be really devastating if not a bit of a one trick pony and maybe better suited for a larger army list?

Cheers

I don't have the weirdnob, it's in my to-buy list. About this batallion... it's a bit of a mixed bag if you ask me. The bonus to powers is nice but ultimately is a boon only the weirdnob benefits from and his stats and skills, all together, are not worth 220 points if you ask me (120+100 from the batallion). He may be useful against meelee based armies but I'm hardpressed to say it's a must. Now, if GHB 2.0 does some cuts to the costs (Weridnob 100 and batallion 60) I'll say it's a solid choice and good way to cover your army's weaknesses.

Yea that was my thinking as well. And you only have the 1 spell per turn. Give him 2 spells a turn and that would be a very powerfull formation
Do you have experience versus: Bloodbound, high elves (swifthawk agents) and seraphon ? That are the armies that are usually on the other side of the table from me.

I have only played against seraphon once (not khorne bloodbound and only old high-elfs) but ultimately the same principle applies: overwhelm them with speed. Your average troop will have a medium movement of 11'', 18-20'' if you go for a charge. Unless facing the high elf reaver spam you'll catch up the enemy if you move accordingly. Charge the enemy and defeat them in detail: focus one-two units on the first charge with the ardboyz, ensuring you wipe them with minimal casualties, then let the enemy countercharge and pluck in the brutes on any hole they open. Gore-gruntas are wonderful distraction unit: they'll be upon the foe almost inmediately and they are the worst unit in your army.

If he does the skink deployment shenanigans, then I suggest you leave a unit of ardboyz a bit behind, allowing them to be used as a counter-attack force.

Yea, I guess that is the main theme/ Tactics for this army, run and kill stuff in cc. Actually I'm a little nervous going against swifthawk, played a game yesterday against them with my ogres. And I gotta say, that speed and shooting is quite difficult to counter with a slow elite army.
What would you think about bringing a Megaboss on maw-krusha in 2000 point liste. Something like this.

Megaboss on maw-krusha
Warchanter

3x10 ard Boys
2x5 Brutes
2x3 goregruntas
2 ironfist formations
?

Thanks for all the good advice
