Evening all.
I was thinking today during my work lunch about how many space marine chapters there are and after a little research when i got home i saw it was a lot...
But it got me thinking...
Would it be possible to paint every single chapter?

Using this image as a guide what i plan to do over the next 12 months or so is paint every single space marine chapter using the Tactical Squad as a base.

(the image is too big to display on here properly)

Call me crazy if you want but i think it might be interesting to see how well it goes
What do you all think?

well gak i guess i gotta commit to this now
Gonna get my Magnus finished first i think before i start this.

I worked it out as 106 seperate chapters which would mean 11 boxes of marines. Lets say £300 to get them all bought and then i'll need some of the paints i dont have...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On top of that i just thought that not all the chapters will have a "Paints required" section so it will be best guess for some

While an interesting idea, this would hinge immensely on the following:

A) Do you like to paint.
B) Are you okay with $250-300 worth of marines you won't be able to field in a game (well you could, but it would look really bizarre).

I don't paint for fun, I paint to get stuff on the table, so the idea seems foreign to me. It'd be cool for an internet showcase, but that's about it. You that interested in simply having 100 marines sitting on a shelf for display only?

As someone who does paint for fun, I'll say you're not the only one who's ever thought this was a good idea. I think there's even one or two attempts at it in here if you dig deep enough.

Yes, and then some. In progress, check my (mad) army blog. I too paint and model for fun. Have yet to play the game, and don't worry about it.

You could do what someone else did on here, its under the painting forum. They sent a Ork to anyone that wanted to paint one, so they not only did they have different warbands, but also different painters ideas for that figure.

Might be worth asking around if anyone wants to help you, if you want help. Otherwise I like it, would look cool, in a shadow box set up like the poster you have up on your first post.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
It would be a slow burn project. Buy one box and make my way through the chapters. Rinse and repeat.
I wanna get them up to display standard so with a little battle damage and environmental aesthetic as well.
I think it's achievable and another plus is my skills will increase as I go.

I've got a shelf behind me in my office that should be more than big enough to hold everyone.
Im thinking that one of those tiny step shelves would help display them properly.

I saw a guy who used the Betrayal at Calth set and painted up the origional 18 legions and it looked awesome perhaps to keep the cost down buy the 30k sets since they come with 30 marines.

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

That's a pretty good idea.

Sounds like a fun idea! Definitely know some people who did projects like this, but nonetheless still impressive! If money is an issue, I think buying the $10 3-man kit is slightly cheaper than the 10-man tac squad.

Thats another potentially good idea.
I can kinda rationalise it at the moment as i wont need to buy a new box of them until i run out which is every 10 weeks.

It's a Dakka-Worthy project. But it may require some community support to achieve your goal.

So here's an idea. You could ask people to "fluff-sponsor" a marine. To write up a little character fluff for each one.

Just draw up a list of all the marines you intend to paint and drop it on the "fiction" page with a link here. I always find a bit of a back story helps drive enthusiasm to paint. Just to bring a good character to life. If you want to I'll be the first to sign up. And I'm sure I won't be the only one.

I think the point here is in the doing it yourself though.

That is a really really good idea. I think this is how i'm going to do it. People can PM me with the request of which one they want painted and provide me with the details of backstory.
