Is it just me or does anything think the models are a tad too small for 32mm models? I think the models should be either a little bigger or if only they had a 30mm that would probably be perfect. I can't really decide which I like more between the 25mm and 32mm bases. I got half my guys on 25mm and half on 32mm bases atm.

32mm all the way. They fit perfectly imo. They add bulk to a Space Marine while still giving room for base decoration.
On 25mm, the feet are more often than not over the edge, no room for any kind of base decoration.

I prefer them on 32 mm to be honest.

32mm bases have annoying habit of taking more space on the table so unless you up your table size to compensate you have less room to manouver.

Combined with all the big models and super heavies starts to be that 6'x4' tables are way too small. Especially as point sizes go up. 8'x5' or 8'x6' is starting to become needed :-/

How many points do you play to consider it an issue. At 1850 there is no problem unless you start putting 200 zombies on 32mm bases

That's why 32 mm can be fine on SM models, you won't have an horde of models. Orks have the bulk to fit 32 mm bases but then they would occupy half table. Imagine a green tide with 32 mm bases and other 800 points of stuff.

That's why I prefer 25mm in general but they're not a problem on SM and they also look better.

Marines in the classic wide-legged 'full diaper' stance need 32mm or they hang off the edge. More modern marines that have learned to stand straight legged can get away with 28mm but still look better on 32. I imagine putting everything on 28mm was originally just a cost saving measure.

A lot of people like the bulkier look of 32mm, personally i like the taller slimmer look of 25mm!

Depends on the Space Marine. A lot of the newer models (GK, Deathwatch, 7e Devastator/Assault kits...) look too big for 25mm bases, but older models tend to work fine on the smaller bases.

(The new Assault Marines are particularly bad on 25mm bases, they're too top-heavy and don't balance well.)

Good point about the tipping. That's the one thing I like about the 32mm bases they don't tip as easily. (No need for the pennies) Are the devastator/assault kits really bigger though? Or are they just really really tipping their toes so they are taller? I heard people say that the new assault kit actually has really tiny legs but I never seen the models myself.

I am not much for basing as I want them to be as generic as possible to fit the most tables. So I like the 25mm bases in that respect. However, I can understand why players would like the larger size as if does match the MEQ models much better.

Yesterday, I did pull off the 25mm bases I have on my Raptors exchanging them with the 32mm that came with the Chaos Space Marines in the Desolator Squad. I did that mostly as I didn't want to buy more bases and jump troops do benefit from the extra stability of the larger base.

I don't know how GW decided (or if it was even them who came up with the sizes for bases; they might have been a standard even before then) what sizes to make their bases, but the original Space Marines from 1988 fit perfectly well onto a 25mm base (as do Terminators, for that matter!).

32 works for marines...

There not half off a base, falling over all the time or such.

Jump marines on 25mm just are a pain to balence at times.
My custom chaplain needed some counter balencing to place central mass over centre.

For legacy reasons, and to save my sanity, I prefer the 25mm for my muhreens. I am NOT switching 150+ decorated 25mm bases into 32mm.

They are dandy and make the SM infantry models stand out better, I know, and I agree with the others.

One option is the base extenders or adapters, of which there are several different kinds, materials and brands. Best of both worlds in case you don't want to change your entire collection, but you still want the looks and/or stability the 32mm provides.
Personally, I am converting my Marine bases to 32mm. Of coursem these are all some older marines with simply green bases with sand on top. And this was a golden opportunity to start making a few 32mm bases, and then learning how to make silicone rubber moulds of them to cast my bases with polyurethane resin.

I don't think 25mm has been appropriate for a long time, especially for space marines who look more more impressive on 32mm bases and don't typically come in units of twenty or thirty. Ork boyz and termagants don't fit on 25mm bases well, but in their cases it's necessary to have smaller bases to prevent each unit taking up a third of their deployment zone.

The problem with Termagants I had, was that they are leaning forward heavily. It doesn't need a 32mm base to counter that problem, just a solid resin base or a slightly weighted base.
With assault marines (or their chaos equivalent, raptors) this is less of a solution, as those models usually are tall, as opposed to leaning forward (major conversions excepted, of course). For such models, aside from 32mm bases looking good underneath bulky models such as marines (opinion, I know), that little extra width from 32mm opposed to 25mm gives stability.

I've been adding expanders to my marines' bases as needed when the models hit the tabletop. It's certainly a godsend for my assault marines, especially the metal vanguards!

And I agree that the marines look much better on the bigger bases, especially in direct comparison to IG and Sisters.

32mm is perfect for Power armoured Marines. Scouts look fine on 25mm.
This is one of the few times in which GWs scale creep has made sense to me. Necron Warriors also look best on 32mm.

What I do not want to see (but fully expect to happen) is Orks & Guants on 32mm. Orks look good on 32mm, but they would just take up too much space.
I already refuse to put my Daemons infantry on 32mm base, even though that is what they keep repackaging them on.

I love the 32mm bases for Marines. The models actually fit properly on them. They would often hang off the edge of the 25mm. I've rebased most of the Marine models I had from before the switch because I like them so much. I want to eventually swap all my Chaos marine stuff as well, but I'll need to come up with more bases first.

my SM on 25 mm bases will stay 25mm. any new purchases will be 32 mm. I don't really see the point but am not rebasing and then touching up boot paint on almost 200 sm figures

25mm for two reasons:
Space Marines are infantry and thus it keeps to the standard of infantry being on 25mm.

Maybe I am a bit picky, but I find the 32mm a tad too small for normal infanty space marines and ya sure 25mm is a bit small but not by too much. Maybe if they did 30mm bases, I think would probably be perfect. It honestly leads me to think there is going to be size creep coming.
