I've made a Viet'sepit Tau I have 3 strike teams and two Pathfinder and 2 hammer heads teams painted all viet tau. I was doing it for a friend but he ended up selling them all to me after I painted them for him so I'm thinking of buying a few more to make an 1850 Point tau fortress Gun line.
I'm thinking put the strike teams on the Rampart the hammer heads behind it to snipe out any mobs or monster's creatures  with help from the gun rig. And put the Pathfinder in devil fish on the weak flank and treat them like fast recon to quickly capture and important  objectives. Any thing you guys would change?

I think my next army will be tau red coats.

Can you post some pics?

As to the list, the Shas'ui upgrade isn't really worth it and Marker Drones don't synergize well with Fire Warriors. Gun Drones would be a better pick. To make up for the Markerlight loss, you could take Marker Drones for your Ports. I wouldn't consider Pathfinders in a Devlifish 'fast' objective grabbers. Even if you flat out, the Devilfish can only trundle along 18". A better idea would be to outflank with these two units. If you want fast, go for Piranhas. Your Hammerheads are over-kitted. You will quickly discover that with their long range and clunky battlefield footprint that is competing with five tide-wall fortifications for board space, they will rarely move, so the Sensor Spines aren't worth it. The same goes for the Automated Repair Systems. While potentially ignoring a weapon destroyed result is nice, you need a 6, which isn't good odds. I'm also curious as to why you didn't put Longstrike in the squadron of two. He confers Preferred Enemy (Astra Militarum) and Tank Hunter to his unit, so it makes sense to give two Hammerheads the benefit as opposed to just one. I hope this helps.

Tactically, the gunfort is a better fortification for a gun line, imho.

Style wise, the V'iet are supposed to have few vehicles and suits and operate in the jungle right? Not super fluffy to set up in a defensive fort; that's the Astra Militarum's job. You're supposed to be guerilla fighters. Now your redcoats, they would be a fluffy gunline. Just my .02, YMMV.

Counterwavecounter I took your advice. I only took the shas'ui for the drones so I dropped the three of them and the 6 drones they had. The plan was to have the Cadre fireblade man one Gun rig and have the Ethereal just grant his 10 leadership bubble to every one on the ground. By striping the fire teams of drones design kiting the hammerheads and taking one Pathfinder of each team I had enough points for 5 Marker drones and a extra Gun Rig. As far as long strike goes he is in the group of 3 hammer heads so he has a bs of 6 and they being part of a fire team get the bs of 5 plus the other goodies.
I was planing to use scout on the Devilfish being that they are dedicated transports to give them that extra nudge at the start of game.

The Shrike I agree with you that a defensive fort would not be ideal for the V'iet but I was watching We were soldiers while making this list and liked the idea of the catchatan coming in thinking there is like 1 strike unit out in the bush only to find a jungle fortresses of men dug in deeper like a varsity ball player on prom night. And since there is no crunch way to Boobtain trap the field I feel like the V'iet tau would be the kind of JerKS who would bury three hammerheads with a gun fort or two into the side of an unsuspecting hill.

Also I learned I'm not a photographer today
