Okay so I've been piecing together parts of various legions to try to get a decent list that at least stands up against some of the cheese that is 40K today.
I want it to be 1850 and in 3 detachments or less
Some ideas that I have come up with so far:
-Tzeench DP with a 2+ re-rollable armour save with either Draconscale Plate or Fleshmetal Exoskeleton (Or both)
-A warband for ObSec, maybe Alpha Legion with infiltrate and shrouded on T1
-Maybe some sort of star with the Astral Grimore and the mindevil (just not sure on the base) Could do a Cyclopia Cabal and fish for Warp Fate under Sinistrum.

Similar but, with single faction.

But the Cabal is so boooooooring, it's like the default for every competitive CSM list made since people started shoving them into Flesh Hound units.

Maybe less cancer because I'm not playing Daemons?

Why make it pure csm when you can the best of both csm and daemons and renegades?

Because its single faction. I mean there are lots of ways to make them usable. Obv. the best is the cabal and the nurgle bikers. I also thought of spawn spam up to 50 t6 wounds. you have plague zombies with typhus. I saw hyper MSU world eaters do really well at a local tourney. Alpha legion and IW obliterator spam did really well too. You have a lot of options, the question is what play style do you want? And what model you have?

I'm just looking for ideas really, More pieces to fit the puzzle in my head. No model restriction and I tend to make rounded lists so I tend to avoid spam.
Right now I'm tossing around Occult termies with Astral Grimorie and AL for the Mindevial and a Cycopia Cabal.

If you're going to do the 2+ rerollable DP, go night lords and take their 2+ armor. It will give him a 2+ jink save on top of it.

Nurgle bike stars do pretty well, especially with all the new buffsfrom DG.

Cabals always good but that's a lot of points into HQs when you factor in the additional HQ from your other detachment, I play 1500 so that's usually too hard to swallow

Take a look at the Mayhem Formation - 3+ Helbrutes deepstrike at the same turn, but as individual units without any tax.

Great for both hitting the opponents side armor, getting the Helbrutes close up and personal or to distract the opponent from your advancing troops/bikes/whatever

Are all those Helbrutes in a single unit in the Mayhem Formation? I cannot remember for the life of me.

No they're single models. Although their dreadnought frenzy can screw your plans the turn they arrive. I.e you scatter further than 12" away and roll a 5+, you have to run instead of shooting.

Definitely at least one Heldrake. Besides that, I'm wondering the same thing.
