So I just had a game (me Necrons) against a friend (tyranids) and i swept the floor with him, like dusted, like first shooting phase killed half of his models. I dont know tyranids well enough to give a lineup, but he had a fairly heavy assault army, with a few biovores? and psykers in the back. Essentially I ran a decurion legion + destroyer cult for 1500 pts.

So what i'm curious on is confirming something that feels insanely broken to me.

Destroyer cult gets preferred enemy, rerolls of 1's on to hit and to wound. Additionally, because of destroyer cult special rule, i get reroll's on to wound. I had a triarch stalker near my destroyer units. Essentially giving them a 2+ to hit with rerolls of 1's (so garanteed hits?) and then on alot of tyranid units im getting a 3+ to wound, with rerolls of 1's. and then rerolls as well for the destroyer cult perk. Making it very rare that I dont hit and wound with 90%~ of my shots.

Am i understanding something wrong or is this correct? If so this seems very strong. Maybe due to his army being so wound heavy (most tyranid units have alot of wounds) and getting no saves? Maybe just a hard counter to tyranids/his list?

Thanks guys just wanna make sure I didn't fuckup something

Multiple instances of a re-roll on a single dice do not stack (a dice can only be re-rolled once), you just take the best available. So for the Destroyer Cult, the re-roll to wound basically replaces the re-roll of 1's from PE.

But aside from that, Tyranids and Necrons are at very different ends of the power spectrum generally, so your friend was always going to have a hard time.

Some combinations are powerful, and re-rolling 1s when you succeed on 2s or 3s is a lot more powerful than whan you succeed on 4s, 5s, or 6s. Further, 7th edition is very, very shooting friendly, with the exception of deathstar-esque combinations that make an assault unit durable enough to survive to get into CQC (and reap the sweet, sweet extra/more powerful attacks that assault affords).

But one thing that stands out from your post, which might be a rules disparity if I'm understanding your point correctly, would be when you stated: "Essentially giving them a 2+ to hit with rerolls of 1's (so garanteed hits?)"

Not sure if you intended to suggest it was actually a guaranteed hit, but one of the overarching rules is that you can never re-roll a re-roll. Instead of an actually guaranteed hit, you're instead hitting approximately 35 out of 36 times you roll (5/6 of the time you succeed on the first roll, and 5/6 of the remaining 1/6 of the time you succeed on the re-roll, with only the remaining 1/6 of 1/6 resulting in a failure).

Thank you, yes I understood i could reroll 1's always. Its only one time. So that clarifies it a bit. Still seems very powerful. But i could also see it being extremely bad vs an army with 2+ armor saves, as suddenly my shredding of gause cannons wounds wouldn't armor piece, but instead only 16% would cause wounds.

Thats where you take Heavy Destroyers and back them up with a stalker

You brought a couple of the more powerful formations in the game against a army that barely has formations (worth taking). To level the playing field against that friend try bringing everything in a CAD instead. You will STILL have the advantage over him.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Okay I always prefer fun games over wins. Especially when playing with a friend.

Last time we tied, however I didn't know about the rerolls of 1's within 12inch of warlord with decurion and I didn't have the destroyer cult, just lychguard and filler.

How is 40k that unbalanced though, that seems concerning, even if my rolling was off the charts bad, and his off the charts good, I still think i would of crushed him.

They tyranid codex is old, the necron one not so much. Unfortunately it's part of the game currently, hopefully all the codexes will be updated when 8th edition comes out.

But yea I run powered down CAD's/ random fun ideas when playing my mates tyranids. When he spams GSC primarch formations however...
