Hey guys, I just moved to an area where the only miniatures games that people are currently playing is 40k and Age of Sigmar, I guess a few people have X-Wing collections and I will be trying to organize all of us to get a group together.

But, I currently play Malifaux, Warmachine, X-Wing and will be dabbling into Infinity. I have volunteered to run demos for other games at the store since they want to start pushing other games as well. I have been thinking of what would be a good game to start running demos for that might stick with a crowd that hasn't really tried anything except GW games and a little bit of X-Wing. I was thinking of a skirmish game since most gamers are on a budget and it will easier if they can start with just a box or two and expand later. What are your suggestions?

Think Malifaux is strong if people are willing to learn something that takes a lot of concentration, otherwise x-wing has nicely intuitive mechanics.

Halo Fleet Battles is a really good game, but I've been having trouble getting other players, and I finally just bought both fleets so I don't have to rely on finding someone else who made the investment.

The upside, is that buying both the UNSC and Covenant fleets, with a bit of everything they have, still cost me less than my last 40k army.

Fleet Battles looks great, the issue I have had getting people to start it with me is with X-Wing. Most people are pretty happy with X-Wing being their star ship battles game because of how fast it plays, plus, Star Wars.

It can be a tough slog to get conversions from 40K. I was running demo games for another company for a couple of years but there was a real lack of traction.

One thing you can do is to give peripheral reasons to try things out. Like marketing, where they say you need an average of seven 'touches' to make a sale, sometimes people need to be exposed to the game several times before they will commit to trying it.

Try things like getting painted minis from your other game in the FLGS window, have free to read materials from other games available, make signage (something simple like an A4 printed poster can work), and pick some of the people more open-minded first, as they can help to get others to play.

Of course, picking the right game can do a lot, too. I'm having much more success demoing my upcoming game than I did with some other existing games, and I put a lot of that down to the mechanics.

Wrath of Kings for all those who are interested in skirmish style games. IT is very easy to learn, easy to scale (pretty much it succeeds everywhere that AoS fails) affordable and decent, uses a smaller table in general.
