The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Reforged Studio’s Creative Director Andy Chambers and CCO Tuomas Pirinen took some time off their busy schedules to answer a few questions about the upcoming tabletop game, Warforged: First Contact.
Q: How did the initial idea of the miniatures game come about?
A: We were (and are) working on the digital game as well and we’ve used physical miniatures for testing out ideas all the time. So one day we said: wouldn’t it be awesome if we could play these games with custom-made models? We did a few quick tests, and everyone loved them. So then we decided to start looking for partners to bring the game into reality.
Q: How did you end up joining forces with the Ninja Division and Demigods studio?
A: Andy Chambers, the creative director of the project is also a part time espionage expert and he had acquired some revealing photos on the Ninja Division head honcho, John Cadice… No, seriously, Andy met the good folks of Ninja Division and Sodapop Miniatures in a games convention, and there just was an immediate rapport and synergy. After we saw some stunning artwork by Demigods Studio, we roped the, in with promises of glory and rum.
Q: What gameplay feature are you most proud of?
A: I really like the way the dice are used in this game. Instead of players having to remember complex special rules and exceptions, whenever you roll “SPECIAL” result on a dice, you simply refer to the character card of the model you are using and trigger its special power. More powerful models roll multiple dice, increasing the chance of rolling the “SPECIAL” result. The flavor and depth of the characters really comes alive from these special powers.
Q: What has been the best thing about this project thus far?
A: Working with the concept artists for sure. You do not get a chance to create a new world from a scratch that often, and bringing the alien Mantra, the merciless Iron Legion and the wild Uprising to life via art.
Q: Can you give us some sneak peeks to look at?
A: Of course! This here is the concept art sketch of Commander Kara of the IX Expeditionary Force of the Iron Legion. As you can see, she is a lady who means business. In the game, she unfurls the legendary banner Oriflamme. If she carries and charges into battle., there are very few opponents who can survive.

Interesting to see this thread bumped, I was just thinking about this game and wondering when I would get to learn more about it! Is there anything you can tell us about it Arctic Dragon? Or is everything under NDA?

Saw a feature on this on BoW weekender. Space knights fighting foes from alternate realities in a sci-fantasy universe. Wonder where Andy got that idea from?
What worries me is the ND/Demigods part. Is Prodos/Archon hiding in there somewhere?

If prodos/ archon is indeed part of this honestly that would make me pledge. Having backed their LOAD campaign and seeing some of their other Unicast models I'm a fan of their work, the models are awesome and it seems to be fast and relatively cheap. But then again I didn't back AvP so I had no feelings about them before hand.
Still this project looks cool, I'll be watching it closely.

I would pay attention to Ninja Division's current boondoggle with Super Dungeon Explore v2.0. It is looking like it will be a year late, and they have three other kickstarters in the works that look like they are drumming up money for SDE (recent attempt to 'cross market' with some sketches).

It's looking like GW-ish scale, so 32mm at least. At least from the artwork and descriptions. You don't bother with artwork that detailed for anything smaller.
Ninja Division has problems with rules writing, but they generally do a good job of actually producing stuff. They've also needed a product that wasn't anime-centric and with solid rules for a long, long time now to diversify their portfolio. Especially so now that CMON is muscling in on that territory super hard. This is a good fit for them as it's future fantasy/alternate worlds, without the burden of being overly anime.
Is this Andy Chamber's personal project? As in, is this something he's invested in as his own, or is he a hired on designer?
I think it sounds like something that was initiated by him.
The website says that they were working on the designs for the computer game, and thought it would be great to have a miniature wargame (and miniature representation) of the stuff they were doing.. they then approached (or were approached by) Ninja Division.

How bad are the screw-ups on SDE2.0? That Chambers and Pirinen are involved upped my interest immensely. From afar it sounded like ND is flailing some, but nothing too worrisome.

Not as bad as people were assuming a few days ago, see the latest update in spoilers

Legends Design Update!

We have been hunkering behind our enchanted shields after shooting out a poorly worded and inaccurate update about Legends. So, I thought I would bring you a VERY nitty-gritty detailed update on status, and an open conversation about status, complexity, and delivery. We share your pain with the delayed delivery, but with a SOLID dedication to delivering the best possible product, we must take the opportunity to bring the create a new pillar that will stand the test of time. After internal testing and review of our progress on Legends, it was unanimously agreed that we were chasing the wrong rabbit with the product, and it deserved so much better. We still stand by our commitment to be here week in and week out to discuss and share with you all news as we finish up this product. I (Ninja John) have stepped in for Ninja Deke on Kickstarter communications. As I have been coming online, you have noticed a drop off in engagement from our end. Please be assured, I will be up to snuff in no time, and I thank you for your patience.
Legends overview:
•Legends is a 3 book product, consisting of a robust Hero's Handbook, The Consul Grimoire, and the Explorer's Guide.
•The Explorers Guide is the background book, its FULL of rich background detailing the races, history, and regions of Crystalia and only needs a little more artwork before we can go to layout. I am personally working with Ninja Deke on the art guide to finalize that content and assign the additional illustration.
•The Hero's Handbook is the "Rules" and the players guide to Legends. The primary rules and engine have been rewritten and are done. It still needs a final pass on the ability lists and the leveling guide. These will get sorted out during play testing as the math used to balance the process needs to be planned carefully. We are still on track to start play testing this month, as Deke had informed you in previous communications. You will know as soon as we do!
•The Consul's Grimoire has 3 primary sections: 2x Campaigns, a HUGE Bestiary, and an Adventure Building Guide. Campaigns will be written along with play testing, because they are informed by how testing affects the adventures. Bestiary will get more fully filled out once we are happy with the balancing rubric on how they work and interact with each other and the players. Again, super informed by our internal and external testing (Beginning this month). And, Adventure Building is being written side-by-side with the playtest adventures as we speak, and then be polished through the test process.
It's hard to simplify all of that into a number or a percentage - but as testing gets underway, we will be soliciting you for feedback and involvement in the last steps. Here is a graphic we will be updating weekly to give you an at-a-glance overview of progress. We will likely discuss more minute issues in the updates, and try to leave this a clean visual on progress. Please ask anything below - we will answer what we have answers for.
As we proceed - there are a few core questions we keep seeing that we need to address. We will come back and mention them as often as needed to provide clarification, as they are essential to understanding the progress of this campaign, it's fulfillment, and to help cut through confusion and speculation by some of our more passionate backers.
•Q: In your previous update, you showed the Legends Kickstarter at 0%, why is that?
•A: Because Ninja John is doofy, and I totally glazed over a portion of our internal update that was described in a follow-on email, and is NOT REFLECTIVE of reality. We are actually significantly farther along in development.
•Q: Why do you have other Kickstarters nearing completion sooner than Legends?
•A: Our other campaigns are all projects with varying scope and resources. Some were completely developed before going to Kickstarter, some certainly did not require a reset/redesign of a core element in our exploration of the project, and not any of them, all together, are as complex or requiring as much design and creative contribution as Legends is to complete.
•Q: Does any of your other business activity, and Kickstarters slow down development of the project I backed?
•A: NOPE. We have developed channels of production, independent of one another, and managed by different teams, to deliver each program in their entirety. The work budgeted for each campaign, Legends included, has not drawn more resources from any other campaign, nor been impacted by the work done on other campaigns, as they are unique in their challenges, managed in their asset generation from shared art resources, and championed internally by different managers. Impacts to various projects have come from a variety of reasons, and mostly due to unseen variables in dealing with overseas manufacturing vendors, approval of quality materials and finished goods, reworking key design elements through intense internal scrutiny and testing, and in some cases, personal family, and health reasons that might have pulled one or more of us offline in very serious ways.
•Q: Will you stop work on other kickstarters until this one is complete?
•A: Nope. These are all planned independent of one another, and the completion of one, on scales of complexity and inputs was designed to generate and work themselves out in exclusivity.
•Q: I saw something about a 3rd Wave Release for Super Dungeon Legends, what is that?
•A: That was again, a mistake placement by me (Ninja John). As we have had internal discussion about a possible split of one of the waves to deliver more content to you quicker, because of the delay with the Legends rules. I don't have enough date together yet on the impact of this decision, but would welcome your feedback.
•Q: When can backers start to expect to be receiving the first Wave of content?
•A: All of Wave 1 is in pre-production right now. We need to approve final miniatures from test molds, and the digital and physical proofs on all submitted designs. I do not have a shipment date on these items today, but we are continuing to follow up on their status

I am not sure, that did not really 'answer' anything other than put a PR face on it. Ninja All Stars was also late and had poor customer support planning.
This could go okay, but I would not put money down until it hits shelves and proves out.

The site is up. It gives lots of history, has concept artwork and has background info for units and heros.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's the Facebook page. Note that this game has unit cards (April 11 entry), much less clutter than charts and books all over the table.

I would be fine with hexes if we were talking Heroscape or Battletech style. I hope the actual game comes with either a larger board that you add terrain to, or more exciting tiles.

The configuration of tiles in the demo is only one of many. Each scenario features a variety of variably sized, randomly determined tiles, kind of like a futuristic dungeon crawler.

I don't think I am in yet, I want to see how they plan to expand this. Will it have a way to play outside of preset scenarios? Will there be more factions? Will it be expanded like a board game or a minis game?

When I was doing the playtesting I modified the scenarios and made some of my own scenarios to make into a traditional minis tabletop wargame. Since the hex tiles are modular and the fighters have point values it was very easy to modify.

Ooof....zero interest in a little hex-based board game. I don't "love" the aesthetic so this'll be a definite pass for me. Nice to see Chambers and Tuomas taking a swing at something.
