I just started playing and it pulled me in right away. The story is intriguing and the game play is exciting.
If you liked the recent Tomb Raider games and games like the Nathan Drake series and other 3rd person games, give this one a go. Graphics are gorgeous, controls are tight, and the story is interesting so far.
It's also a level up kind of game but not in the strict RPG sense. So there is a lot of variety to ho it can be played.
Not really trusting video game reviews, I watch Let's Play vids on YT. Mechanically, HZD reminds me too much of the Far Cry games - especially Primal. On the story side, HZD is frustratingly by the numbers but also slow burn. The only thing worse than a boring story is a boring story told slowly.
The game seems solid enough to entertain people who really like the Far Cry type action games or who have never played one. But I think this was a case of Sony dangling some very nice concept art in front of us - giant robot dinosaurs! - but as a game, this is just very well-tread ground.

I'd argue you should Redbox it, as Let's Play don't always give the same feeling as actually playing it. The only thing I've seen really criticized is the melee.

Yes, that's a good point - there is a big difference between playing a game and watching it like a movie ... not least of all that while someone who is just watching has the leisure to get bored, the person playing has to be actively engaged actually playing the game. Of course, it is possible that the gameplay itself can get boring! I haven't seen anything in HZD that makes me want to play it (in contrast to, say, Breath of the Wild). Also I just don't like the main character at all.

That's fair. I will say, at first I was totally on board to buy it, but your comment about Far Cry made me want to consider Redboxing it. I really liked Far Cry, but likewise, I found it boring about 8 hours in. I'm concerned HZD would be the same, but I'm hoping the variety of skills and combat styles (hacking enemies to take control of them, sneaking, setting up traps, etc.) would make up for it.
Yep, I really enjoyed both of FC3 and FC Primal, especially Primal, but both sort of outstayed their welcome and just didn't have strong enough plots to keep me going once I got to a certain power level. This also happened in similar games where I like the IP much better, e.g., Shadows of Mordor and Arkham ___.
I do not think so at all. In my limited time with the game (6-7 hours), I haven't seen anything sexist in it , quite the opposite in fact. Women hold positions of great power within the societies, from the top to the bottom. Everyone seems to be on equal footing, as far as gender goes.

Being an outcast is sexist? Watched some playthroughs from sidestrafe and as soon as i clear some of my backlog i will get it .
(And i liked Far cry primal, the random animal attacks was the only thing that was annoying, but once you can tame a sabretooth that isn't a big issue anymore)
You could point to the gender of the biggest jerks in the first village as anti-male sexist. But it's a pretty flimsy basis for the argument (the "biggest jerks" in question are two specific individuals). One of the matriarchal leaders in the village probably hates Aloy just as much as those other two, but she doesn't interact with the protagonist all that much. That's probably the *strongest* argument that one could make toward sexism in the game. And it's a pretty flimsy one.
