another tehnolog/robogear toy, (photos borrowed from ebay seller riorita.53) that I've just got, for fun

might work ok as that admech orithopter if the size is right, no cargo bay but you could imagine a squad of skittles holding on to drop rails between the tail beams (unlike a human squad)

I wish it came with upper engine sections as an alternative to the two spring guns on top of the wings but for about £10 it's hard to complain

size wise as you see its a very good fit to gw humans especially if you headswap the pilot mini (though you'd struggle to get a primeris in the cockpit). Nice touch with the lower engines you can build them in level flight (show ) or angled up at 45 degrees for a taking off look

Definitely looks marine with the ridiculous amount of guns and lack of flight capability.

That's more of a model kit than a toy, if your going that route i would rather just grab something from mantic. they have some excellent flyers at half of what GW charges that are super simple kits to assemble.

They may be a bit crude, but I'd say that robogear and other Tehnolog stuff qualifies as wargsming miniatures rather than toys.

Still, I agree they are neat. I bashed together a flyer...

...and got the other flyer kits as well. I had intended them for my squat army but who knows if that will ever happen. The Condor is my favorite of the Robogear flyers.

More robogear bashes...

At 8cm long they're too big for 28mm (except as oversized objectives maybe) but perhaps cut off the top to make cargo containers. We always need more crates and cargo containers.

The Mantic dropship is great, it's almost push fit and even kinda holds with no glue, while also having moving engines and doors. Plus it's the closest I'll ever get to an XCOM Skyranger.

On the Mantic ship, do the wing fans move? How big are they compared to a PHR dropship’s engines? Those fans are the main obstacle I see to a successful conversion.

Yes they move, you can also build it with landing gear up or down and with the cargo pod on or off.

Size wise it is comparable to a storm raven.

I have now made my scions/inquisitor lads airborne this summer. I wasnt ready to stomach the $80 per Valk for x4 and hell the mantic ships are probably easier to build

Not probably, the instructions are online but i didn't really need them to put it together.

You also can get the pack of 3 mantic dropships for $110...so yeah a bit nicer than $80 per. with GWs overpriced products.

Bit of a star wars legion theme this time. A decent number of these are out of production, but can usually be found used for a more reasonable cost.

Hasbro U-wing (2010 hasbro at-at also pictured)
it is a little chunky, but looks close enough for legion
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/UT-60D_U-wing_starfighter/support_craft

Painted red over the stripes on mine to match my rebels rebels. Washed with black craft paint that was diluted with water/airbrush thinner.

Some pictures of it stock

legion rebel against the U-wing side door

Spoiler:

hasbro attack shuttle (nu-class shuttle)
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Nu-class_attack_shuttle
Haven't painted mine yet, so I don't have any dedicated pictures of it, but it fits in pretty well.

Spoiler:

Disney Parks sandcrawler
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Sandcrawler
I picked this guy up at galaxy's edged last week. The stock paintjob isn't even that bad. So far all I added was a wash (made from black craft paint that was diluted with water/airbrush thinner; this thing would probably take a entire bottle of nuln oil) and some dust/rust colored drybrushes. Scale wise it looks about right. Possibly a little fat.

I imagine this one would make a awesome base for a ad-mech or orkish terrain piece as well.

Spoiler:

Honorable mentions:
2010 hasbro AT-AT
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/All_Terrain_Armored_Transport
bigger and better proportioned than the older hasbro AT-ATs, but still not quite right (the head proportions mostly). I love putting mine on the table anyway. It scales nicely with the snowspeeder scenes, but not the official scale (that seems to be based on the Luke cable ascension scene). The legs make for truly impassable line of sight blockers (most other terrain I have is shorter than 1 legion range stick, so speeder/jump units don't care) Look for broken ones on ebay if you wants to get one of these.

Spoiler:

If I ever find a Hasbro turbo tank for a reasonable cost, I might get one of those as well. From what I can tell it looks about the right size.

That's a really nice Star Wars collection!

Disney Parks also sell an AT-AT popcorn bucket holder for $25, or they did in 2018 when I bought two... There was only one ice cream stand in Hollywood Studios that sold them, but that was before Galaxy's Edge opened.

Legs are moveable, top surface is the bit that flips open to hold your popcorn bucket. Thing is huge. It has a carrying strap that you may want to cut off.

I used some cheap knock-off "Not-Gundam" toys that I got 144 for like $15 USD off Amazon to make some anime-"inspired" space fighting mecha suits.

Started with.....

and ended up with this.....

Next, I want to add some flying stands for them.

Bit beyond the price range I am looking for. I am more interested in quantity not quality. Somewhere around 200-400 barrels total. The plan is to make modular LOS blocking terrain using pallets and barrels. Magnets on the top and bottom so it fits secure. It will look something like this:

Probably going to have to just stalk ebay until a listing from china pops up.

I decided to see how the Tehnolog medieval style cannon scales with wargaming minis

show against a primeris lieutenant and a sedition wars metal 28mm mini, the cannon is fine but I think the carriage is too big, although it should be fairly simple to cut that down

Yep, that's definitely a heroic-scale 54mm cannon. Pretty nice detail.

However, as you note, using GW standards for barrel size, it wouldn't be totally out of line for warhammer with smaller wheels.

So in my never ending quest for more space port terrain I found this gem.

The ELC Planet Protectors line. Looks common and cheap in the UK but I can't find it in the US

I did find two subs that might work.

I could see this working well for a Krieg or Genswick regiment as a gun carriage for something like a mortar, or similar..

I’m tempted to add a ton of 1/35 scale tank treads and turn it into mobile Dropzone Commander terrain.

Sadly, I don’t have anywhere to store it.

I mean... who doesn't?

It's certainly impressive. Although the retractable section is a clever idea for storage (Save on mooring fees - shorten your ship!) it looks like it would be a bit rough on the planes' landing gear...
