Saw some poor guy's thread about how to deal with Captain Sloan's assassination and it got me thinking...

74/75
Makeda1 (+29)
Desert Hydra 38
Molik Karn 19
Basilisk Krea 7
Titan Gladiator 15

Mortitheurge Willbreaker 4
Praetorian Keltarii x10 15
Beast Handlers x4 5

potential 12-14" threat range Hydra + shield walls + potentially def 19 vs ranged/magic keltarii

I was bored

I love the new Skorne, and the Hydra, so I want this to work . Will you be able to try it out?

Va

Zaadesh2 could work well since he has sac pawn beast as well as an armor buff. As a former Sloan player I know that she hates seeing armor buffs as it messes with the hunters armor piercing pretty well. I am actually running him with Morghul2 in a steamroller and I plan on dropping Zaadesh into any gun lines.

I'm planning on running it tomorrow, not really sure what the guy plans on bringing but I don't think he's bringing a pure gunline. I still want to toy with this as my go-to 'feth-you-ranged' list so as soon as I go up against a gunline we'll throw this baby on the table.

Sort of considering dropping the gladiator+keltarii for scarab pack/legends/swordsmen+UA. Slows down the hydra/molik a little bit but swordsmen w/ UA threaten more (with legends right behind them) and scarab pack shield walls with carapace are just...gross. Like maybe even trollier than just stock Keltraii.

List v2 would look like

Makeda1
-Hydra
-Krea
-Molik
-Scarab Pack

4x PGBH
10x Swordsmen+UA
Legends of Halaak

EDIT: The only problem is Mortitheurge + Scarabs/Swordsmen would be awesome; or Mortitheurge + def 17/19 Keltarii is soooo insane.

:(

So quick report, used v1 of the list and it saved my ass real hard.

Played into Butcher3. _Not_ an ideal matchup for this list. Went second. No scenario, just throwing models at each other. He brought a bunch of heavy jacks including Ruin, 4 widowmakers, a gun solo, and a pair of melee jam solos I can't recall.

Turn1
He moves his heavy jacks up. He forgets to Energize and move up one of his dogs with Butcher and this ends up winning me the game.

I move my dudes up and run my Keltarii up 18" with quicken to a better position.

Turn2
He jams up my Keltarii (kills 2 or 3) with his solo pair since they have parry. Maybe shoots 1 keltarii off the board (def17).

I do not upkeep Quicken on the Keltariii. I send Molik to charge one of the solos, then sidestep/overtake to the other, then Reposition 5" back to safety. The now unjammed Keltarii get Quicken and charge very far to his Widowmakers and kill most of them. They are in a decent position to both Butcher if he ignores him.

I enrage the Hydra.

I cast quicken and rush on the Desert Hydra. The Hydra charges 12" to threaten two heavy jacks. He one rounds one of them barely because it's like armor 23 or 24 and I wasn't expecting that (I'm still pretty new to the game).

Turn3
The heavy jacks and Butcher kill the Hydra, Butcher feats and clears all the Keltarii except one. His two Widowmakers are engaged (critical) with my single remaining Keltarii oddly out. I feth up and left my gladiator too close to ruin, who charges very far and leaves my Gladiator on 1 box. Butcher senses an assassination attempt (he didn't have enough fury to teleport back) and tries to jam between the Widowmakers and himself with a single dog.

I see the assassination attempt as my last hope as Butcher is close enough. I activate my beast handlers and enrage Molik Karn. I activate my Willbreaker, moving him up and place Puppet Master on Molik. I activate Makeda, move her up so that Molik ends the charge in her control range, and cast Quicken and Rush on Molik (the Gladiator is engaged with Ruin and is out of range/LOS of Molik). She ends her activation.

Hail Mary with Molik! He charges for a 13" charge with 2" reach, I barely skip by one of his heavy jacks' to avoid a free strike to the Widowmaker closest to Butcher (he is about 4" away from the Widowmaker. Perfect.)

I whiff my first hit on the Widowmaker, rolling a 3. I boost after and hit, forgetting to use my Puppet Master. I easily kill the widowmaker and Overtake, then Sidestep past the dog, taking a free strike. It does a few points but not enough to knock out any aspects.

I proceed to use my second initial and buy two more attacks to barely do enough damage to kill Butcher.

Thoughts:

* I would not play this into heavy jack spam
* Molik is so good with Makeda and he is so fast with the Gladiator
* I still don't know if 5 shield guard scarabs > 1 gladiator with rush.

I would take the gladiator for rush every time.

Agree, that's how I felt after the game.

Any thoughts on how to run Zaadesh2 into a gunline besides advancing behind clouds? Small battlegroup that can fit behind the clouds?
