Hi all,
So it has been an awful long time since I posted anything, but in the meantime I have not been idle. I have rediscovered my love of all things grimdark about the 41st millennium in the form of genestealer cults, and have been steadily adding to my insidious cult.
I'm also mindful that while my painting is nowhere near eavy metal standard, I hope it's not too bad on a student budget with only 2 brushes and about 9 paints.

This cult is slightly different from the standard gene-cult, in that it is interstellar, and inhabits a space hulk formerly designated 'The End of Reason', but now dubbed by the cult as 'The Harbinger of the Outer Void', and they've picked up a lot of strange additions along the way - I've included the fluff for the cult in a PDF attachment for anyone who's interested.

More pictures to come: this time, some three-armed critters in the form of acolyte hybrids and their metamorph brethren.
Also, I've dabbled in the dark arts of conversion for some time now, and I'm quietly proud of my 'hyborkz' even though I am well aware this conversion has already been pulled off before by a couple of veteran artists - my attempt is more akin to a finger-painting, but I had a lot of fun making them up.

I was a bit dissatisfied with the aberrants contained in Deathwatch: Overkill. They looked decent-ish, but I found they lacked a lot of variety, and they fill a very niche battlefield role. Nevertheless, I thought to myself: I can improve on this, and so with some khorne bloodbound blood warriors (why the obsession with blood these days?), some acolyte heads and some left-over power weapons, I made up some more aberrants. I know they can only be fielded in squads of 8, so I plan on using these blokes as two squads to take out pesky tanks and artillery.

On a slightly unrelated note, I managed to get my grubby mitts on a trio of old space-crusade era dreadnoughts, which I thought not only would look good as stolen sentinels, but also fitted the cult aesthetic from the gurning faces, to the elongated 'arms' to the spinal ridges along the back of the walkers. (Pictured here with and without their PDF infiltrators).

Still working on the characters from Overkill - will post more pictures in a week or so. Feel free to offer any thoughts or advice on the cult so far.

Thanks Icelord - it means a lot.
Work is still continuing slowly, but I suspect I'll have the Primus and Magus done relatively soon. I'm also considering creating a throne for the Patriarch, like the original model, but I'm not sure yet whether to create something mechanical or symbiotic...
Also, I'll post pics of the genestealers and another splinter cult I've been working on in a week's time. Until then, watch the shadows...

Hahah great man! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Also try and take your pics with a neutral background and possible from eye level. Easier for us to see what you have and you might get more comments!

Thanks Icelord - I've taken your comments into account, and I've made a few improvements, though it doesn't help that I'm working off the camera on a windows phone. I'll have access to a proper camera over the weekend so I will try to take better pictures of the entire cult and post them here.

Until then, here is my Primus, Khan Oberon. I changed the hands around a bit, so he's having a Hamlet moment in talking to the skull; the needle pistol is held in his clawed hand.

Also, I've made good use of the two Overkill purestrains, by converting them into weapons-beasts (counts as neophytes with mining laser and seismic cannon).

Nice job! Keep up the good work.

I also think you should add some flock or something to the bases to break up all the dark colors.

Looking forward to more

Ok, so no pictures yet, just got back from college the other day, but I will try to upload some tomorrow. Fought my first game with my extended cult (I have played before but only on a small 500-point scale) and I think it went rather well. My opponent brought Dark Angels, and I have to say it's a hard counter - being able to overwatch with BS 3 (he brought a demi company) absolutely shredded half of my charges - pity the primus hasn't got any better armour. He and the metamorphs died without much of a fight!

The star players of the match were actually the aberrants - and I know a lot of people have rubbished them on Dakka and Bols as being relatively useless on the board, but teamed up with an iconward to give them furious charge and the all-important 4+ FNP meant they actually survived to deal out a whole lot of damage - my two squads killed between them a full 10 man assault squad, a 10 man tactical squad and two rhinos. Admittedly the game only went on for three turns due to time constraints, and as a result my patriarch didn't manage to get into the thick of it (a bad cult ambush roll put him way out where on the first turn and I couldn't get him back into the game fast enough.)

I hope to post some more pictures tomorrow, and I appreciate any and all feedback. I now have (hopefully) a better camera with which to take pictures and I'll try my damnedest to get better quality shots - will prioritise units I haven't shown yet, and then re-do the others if I have time.

Alright, picture time! First I'll start off with the heroes of the Harbingers of the Outer Void. I found a couple of old Empire battle mages and converted them up to be snivelling little Magi attendant on the Oberon twins. Also, here is my Patriarch and his entourage, which forms the First Curse. In reality, once I've fixed up the Overkill Patriarch and throned him, he'll be my primogenitor and this one will serve as a Broodlord or a lesser Patriarch - still powerful, but engineered for a more active battlefield role.

That pretty much concludes the Harbingers, but I've also created a smaller, local cult 'The Violet Claw' and some converted nid characters to go with, in addition to some old OOP tyranid warriors.

Wow, you have been cranking these out! I'm loving the conversions. Armies like these are always a blast to play against.

I think my favorite model is the Primus. That black and neon green is just ace.

Keep up the good work mate

Cheers man, really appreciate the feedback the Primus's coat is actually caliban green highlighted with moot green, but I admit it's quite dark apart from the highlights.
I will try and post some better pictures of the cult at the weekend, and I also have a couple of goliaths which I'm working on, but they won't be done for a while.
I'm also considering making some counters, because with the whole army infiltrating and arriving via Cult Ambush, it can get a bit tricky to remember what everything can do in the following turn - so rather than leave upturned dice next to the unis (which are prone to being snatched up for mass shooting rounds) I thought I might fashion some army-specific counters to represent the various results - will have to see how that goes.

Until next time, keep praising the four-armed emperor!

Ok so unfortunately no more pics yet, will post a photo of the new patriarch up tomorrow morning, but for now just a short report on the army's progression. Fought an 8000Pt game allied with tyranids and imperial guard against pre-heresy Space Wolves and Alpha Legion space marines. Lost the game by 6 points, but the highlights for me were destroying an Imperial Knight with a first curse, and turning over a land raider achilles with only six metamorphs (bearing in mind only one had a claw).

The war effort goes on, but I think my army is drawing to a close. Will post (good quality) pics of the patriarch tomorrow hopefully.
