Hi guys, I'm looking for some help getting the right sizes cause my local hobby store closed down, which was 2 towns away, so I have to order blind online. My intent is to make stuff for regular power armor marines, terminators, chaplains, as well as recreating characters like Captain Darnath Lysander's Shield and Hammer. I'm assuming I'll need an assortment of rods, tubes, sheets, and a couple of others? Your help gladly welcomed. Thanks

It may help to clarify your question a bit. Is this for scratch-building? cosplay?

Edit: I'm afraid I can't help either way, but maybe this would help direct others who can.

It's for normal 28mm 40k minis, scratchbuilding and conversions. Normally I just grab a few bits and off to the hobby store....but seeing mine closed down, that's not an option.

I've just measured a few pieces with my calipers.

Most weapon shafts and banner poles seem to be about 2 mm. Some parts are as wide as 5 mm, but 3 mm is more usual for the thicker pieces and a few of the more delicate ones only about 1.5 mm.
Power sword blades are about 1.5 mm thick at the widest point, as are power axes ones.
Knife blades are slightly thinner, around 1-1.2 mm.
Storm shield seems to be about 1 mm thick at the edge with raised sections maybe 0.5 mm on top of that.
Banners are about 1 mm thick at the edge, with detail looking like maybe a quarter of a millimetre deep in most places.
Plastic captain's cloak is about 1.5 mm thick.
Purity seal parchment is about 1 mm.
Bolter barrel is about 2 mm.
Heavy bolter barrel about 3.5 mm.
Lascannon barrel about 3.5 mm, muzzle about 4 mm, widest rings about 5 mm.
Missile launcher tube 5-6 mm.
Rhino door about 2 mm thick.

I should point out that GW plastic is harder and tougher than Evergreen styrene (and probably other brands, but I only have experience with evergreen), so you may want to be cautious about making your scratch-built stuff as thin as theirs. I'd certainly recommend a metal pin to reinforce any weapon handles, banner poles, long gun barrels and the like.

Eye of Terror

Totally understand the challenge of ordering this stuff online. Tried to do the same myself recently, ended up driving to see the stuff in person.

I have been using Evergreen 2.5 mm for staffs and maces, but recently switched to 2.0.

You can see some examples in this gallery:

https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-24078-54790_Modeling%20Photos.html

The Sorcerer Staff and the Great Big Axe are both mace with Evergreen 213, the Mace on the Chaos Lord is made with 212.

Reference chart:

With regards to material strength: it's flexible, not flimsy. When I cut it with pliers, it leaves a sharp bevel (and it's not too easy.) I generally pin it with steel gauge.
