Hi there, AOS has taken off at my club and I havent played fantasy in years. Ive been looking up what to play but I have the problem of what I like the look of, what plays good and my personal playstyle.
Generally in wargames I like to take more elite armies (although not always the most elite), I also like a bit of flexibility in strategy.
Armies I like the look of are; Wanderers (are the forest spirits even connected now?), High Elves, mainly but nurgle and tzeentch could be there, the end times death stuff and I'd be willing to start Orgur if I could find the big box still, but I'm open to quite a bit as theres a lot of nice models to choose from.
The thing that puts me off an army fast is if its boring to play or paint, or if its a constant uphill struggle to even win versus a balanced list.
thanks for any help in advance.

I can't really say what is good and what is bad, but I recommend to start or begin with something you will like. If you don't like the minis then no matter how great and powerful they are you will not be happy modelling and or painting them. I do understand you loving the look of the minis and they suck on the battlefield. For most armies not many suck that I do know of, but some are better than others.

Also do you care about the fluff? Read this link. https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/710601.page
Shinos did a beautiful job in recapping the races.
So take a look at the minis, read the fluf and get the Age of Sigmar app to get the rules/warscrolls for free and see what the units do. Then come back and say you are interested in this, are they bad on the field or good.

That is all I can recommend for now since I never like telling someone "take this army they are strong" when there is so much someone may not like them.

I am starting a Tzeench army since I love the look of them. How they play, not sure, but just love the minis. Same for Beastriders. Just love the winter look of them when I hated the "Gutbuster" name on them because they have a big belly. At least AoS is not so silly now as it was when it started.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
