To head it off at the pass, yes imperial knights are better than orkanauts, and I could use a looted knight as an allied renegade knight, and it would be far better. I get it. But, obviously, I'm not very smart, and I'd rather stick with what's truly orky.

Anyhoo, I've got some nice ideas lined up for it, but one thing in particular is bothering me - the transport capacity.

Orkanauts have the giant hatch between their legs, though I'm not certain trying to replicate that on a knight will come out well. Or stable.

I was thinking about building up some scaffolding or catwalks around the waist, but I think it might look too much like a skirt.

The top, however, is large and relatively flat. I'm thinking maybe some structures on top of the knight for the transported units.

I'd just love somewhere to place some big/meks on the model, as that's all that ever rides in one.

Anyone have any thoughts on where on a knight to put a box for transported units? There's plenty of looted knights on the web, but none seemed like it had much for transported units.

Top would work just fine with some ladders leading up to it.

I think so too. I was hoping for maybe something lower, but it'll do, I think.

TBF, the 'skirt' style seems to be popular in the design of Ork superheavy walkers might not look so bad!

On a weirdly related note, in Dawn of War 3 the superheavy units for the three factions (Marines, Eldar, Orks) are Imperial Knights, Wraithknights, and... Orkanauts. So somebody at Relic thought they were as good as Knights! I guess Stompas are too big?

Well, in fairness, orkanauts are approximately the same size as other knights. It's not unreasonable they chose orkanauts instead of stompas, as stompas are like double the size.

I'd love for orkanauts to be even semi-comparable to knights on the tabletop in a category other than size.

I'd say that FW Mega Dreds are a lot closer to a Knight than a Morkanaught and are about the same size as well.

What if you gave the knight a giant shield (thinking something with a big ork skull on it) and have a couple of orks mounted on a base as if they are using it as cover while running along with the knight? could work since the morkanaut is not an assault vehicle, which would be justified since the orks would have to run their arses off just to keep up with the thing.

I think this could help with the overall form of the model and give you a nice opportunity for some dynamic poses with the orks on the base. It also leaves room at the top of the model to add more killy things. You would just want to make sure that your opponent understands that the orks are "embarked" since you could see them from the sides/ behind the model.
