Hello, I recently played my first game of AoS (an intro one with the starter kit) and found myself rather enjoying it. I looked towards 3 particular armies and would like some help choosing, The Stormcast Eternals (for the whole knight astectic but I don't like their dragon units), Seraphon (because ya know.. dinosaurs) and Slyvaneth (cause tree people and stuff). I think I found myself most drawn towards the slyvaneth but would like your help in choosing.

What I am mainly looking for are how they play, some good unit choices for them and other information that would sway me towards a particular army.

Thank you in advance.

I would say if you want a purely competitive army, then stormcasts and sylvaneth are the more competitive of the three.

Stormcasts are semi-elite in that they have a lower model count, not the lowest but lower. They have all the toys and a big variety of units. I personally think they are a bit boring. The "sigmarines" joke is not far off, thye function alot like 40k space marines. they have a group of dudes with basic weapons and 1-2 dudes with special weapons, and they all have decent armor. they rely on their heroes to get buffs/synergy. They have no wizards (i think) other than using other Order factions wizards.

Sylvaneth have some really cool models to start with. They have some good "star player" units that perform well like Kurnoth Hunters and Duruthu/treelords. They have alot of healing and can generate forest terrain during the battle. This is something no other army does, so if that is appealing to you then they might be a good choice. thier basic troops are lackluster in my opinion, but their special units are where they get their strength. They have decent casting.

I just started building a Seraphon army and they are more "Traditional", meaning they use larger blocks of troops as a base to their army. They have some fun large dinosaur models and some good battalions. Lots of their troops have access to shields that ignore rend -1. You can get saurus guard, their elite foot troops, up to a 2+ ignore rend -1 save with little effort. They have good casting and summoning through slann and skinks. shooting is a little lacking, no basic "archer" troops. only short ranged skink skirmishers, though they are not bad. Also they are dinosaurs so...

Typing quick so please forgive grammar/spelling.

thank you for your reply. i have just 2 more questions.
If I was to play slyvaneth which book would I need the Order Book or the Slyvaneth book (or both) and a typical game how would you limit the lists using open play (is it by total wounds in your army?)

The Sylvaneth book would have everything you need for a pure Tree-hugger army.

Now, you like Dinosaurs? Let me tell you, Dinosaurs are great. Seraphon is filthy with them, and it feels great ripping apart people with dinosaurs, shooting them with lazers from dinosaurs, and then trampling them with star-dinosaurs.

Seraphon is all about using your synergies to the full advantage. Almost everything we have gives bonuses, rerolls, or a modifier to another unit nearby. An Oldblood on foot and a Scar-vet on Cold One (using command ability) next to a unit of Sauras (warrior or guard) have them rerolling 1's when charging, rerolling 1's to hit and 1's to wound, when generally we wound on 3's. And that's pretty nifty.

I won't lie and say we're the best, but think about it. Do you want to paint trees, or do you want to paint DINOSAURS?

More (satirical) evidence in Seraphon's case:

Spoiler:

You might also want to buy the General's Handbook if your area uses matched play mostly.
