Anyone else is playing this game on Dakka?
For those that don't know it, it's a class-based FPS (like Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch) where you play mercenaries in a close future London that has been evacuated due to, well…a dirty bomb. Some high-tech agency called the CDA (Central Disaster Authority) is trying to fix stuff but the Jackal (some undefined antagonist) wants to steal their tech and generally be a nuisance, and both hire mercs. In practive for each game the attackers are Jackals and the defenders are CDA. The game has two game mode, the main one which is very objective-based (the objectives are usually “Repair and escort the EV”, “Put C4 on this generator and don't let the enemy team disarm it until it explodes” and “Deliver the MacGuffin to that place”), with regular respawn waves , and the other game mode is much more combat-oriented because there are no respawn during a round, though there are still ways to win by objective (“Put C4 on one of the two pylons and prevent the other team from defusing” and “Defuse the C4”). The game is semi-realistic, with most mercs using fairly mundane equipment (assault rifle, grenade launcher, napalm molotov, …) and a few of them having pretty sci-fi stuff (like Kira's sattelite-monted laser of instant death and obliteration, or Spark's “ReVIVR rifle").
A pretty cool mechanic is the fact that when a merc reach 0 hp, they are not dead yet, they are just down and can be revived by a medic (or a non-medic, but this takes much much longer and they come back with less hp). So you have to decide between trying to kill everyone first, or finishing off fallen mercs, and this makes medics important for more than just healing.
The game is very team-based (the death mechanic means that if, say, you fight 1vs3, and kill two enemies before dying, but don't get the time to finish them off, you didn't really do much damage because the survivor can revive the two others), and there is a need for a balanced team with medics, engineers (which can repair, plant and defuse C4 much, much faster than other mercs) and generally support that gives ammo (though those are usually less crucial) to win.
One of the pretty cool part of the game is the brash personality of the mercs, and the taunts they throw at each other ^^.
Ranked season 2 recently started and I am a Silver Recruit for now but I hope to continue to rise in the ranking .

I played their other game (what was it called, the one on the Arc?), which was great, but the player base dwindled. Dirty Bomb's been reviewed well, with it being a bit more mainstream than that other title, so having some more market appeal. Looking at it I liked the level design, but haven't had any time myself to playing it. I'm not sure what its player base is like right now, or whether its also tanking, but I'm assuming its doing alright?

Brink! ...These're the same guys as who made Brink right?

I have no idea, never heard of Brink. But yeah, the game seems to be alright. They recently managed to leave their publisher Nexon to do their own thing too.

How noob friendly is the game? I tend to shy away from FPS games but this looks interesting

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Well, the beginning can be a bit rough because there is no real matchmaking outside of ranked, but some characters can do pretty well even without superb aiming, through clever use of their ability.
Also, the way casual matches are organized make it a very low pressure game because you can join and leave freely, so if a match gets too imbalanced and not fun you can just get in another one.

Inside Yvraine

I used to play this game a couple of years ago. I've heard that it's basically been on life-support and the devs take utterly forever to come out with new content.

It was fun while it lasted, but I dumped it immediately when Overwatch came out, even though Dirty Bomb is more skill-based then OW.

Played it a while back. Hard game, my default character was Phoenix.

I play Dirty Bomb on and off. Last time I was on, Javelin was released. I scooped up the pack for her and got a pretty good loadout card.

I've been playing it over Overwatch since it's much more skill based and far less dependent on team composition to win; as long as someone's playing a medic, you can win if you pull your weight. Hell, I've won plenty of matches with no medic on the team.

I quit Overwatch due to the community and total lack of teamplay in a game that direly needs it. Dirty Bomb needs neither to work for the most part. Even the most useless/toxic player can get a bunch of kills or help the team with the right character.

That was true for a while but now that they have separated from Nexon it's really growing fast with new maps, new mercs, new weapons, etc .
Give it a try and test the new mercs!

I bought the Strikeforce 5 pack yesterday. Having a ton of fun with Phoenix - I built a Gold card for him that I initially thought was kinda iffy, but turned out to be pretty great. The Hochfir SMG seems to be pretty good when you get the hang of how little damage it does; I've been using it to mop up low health enemies and harass people from the backline to give me the opportunity to revive players.

I also had a proper go on Dome Redux. Dirty Bomb needs more maps like those that emphasise on the ability to zip around the map using walls and jump-points if you're skilled enough.
