So I played fantasy a while back and played empire. I recently found my old collection and a partial built battalion box.

I would need some advice on a army list so I can get started in AoS.

Current Models
- Arch Lector
- 2 Generals *2-handed and Banner* (Forgeworld Empire Command)
- 2 Battlemages
- 40 Helberdiers
- 20 Crossbowmen
- 16 Knights
- 2 Cannons
- Steam Tank

I would personally drop the Arch Lector, and one of the generals. As you can only have the one command ability and "Hold The Line" on the general is arguably the best.

A celestial Hurricanum is awesome for freeguild due to the 10" +1 to hit bubble and other abilities. This includes your cannon.

Also an Empire Master engineer allows you to re-roll failed Great Cannon shots.

I've not been a fan of Knights in AoS. They don't seem to stand up to the prolonged combats and only good for a charge.

My list at the moment:

Freeguild General
Empire Master Engineer
Grey Battlemage
Grpyh-hound
20x Freeguild Greatswords
20x Freeguild Sword Guard
20x Freeguild Sword Guard
20x Freeguild Handgunners
Celestial Hurricanum
x3 Empire Cannon

More of a gunline but...

I didn't know you couldnt benefit from 2 generals, as I dont have any of the books yet. I would love to get a Hurricanum but money is a bit tight at the moment, is it any better than a steam tank?

I agree with a Master Engineer (I think they are now called Gunmasters) I thought that dropping a cannon would give me more points to spend on troops as the steam tank has a cannon already, however I dont know the total point cost as I said earlier I dont own the books.

Greatswords are my next buy for this army, I love the models and have read online that they are very good, so top priority for these guys.

This was a general list I was thinking of, trying to use the models I own, and then expand my list further, most likely Greatswords and Demi's.

- General (Either 2-handed/Standard)
- 2 Wizards (Offensive/Defensive)
- Gunmaster (Re-rolls cannons)
- 40 Helberdiers
- 30 Swordsmen
- 20 Crossbowmen
- 20 Handgunners
- 2 Cannons
- Steam Tank

It's in the core rules, which are free to download from GW:

Ah I see yes, thank you for this.

I was wondering can I have two generals, one with a standard and one without, and benefit from the Stately War Banner rule?

From 'The General' on page two of the Age of Sigmar rules:

Once you have finished setting up all of your units, nominate one of the models you set up as your general.

You can have 2 "Freeguild Generals" but only one can be your General (as per the 4 page rules). The stately war banner is an ability rather than a command ability so both Freeguild generals could utilise it if they wanted to. Only one would be able to use 'Hold The Line' and 'Inspiring Presence'.

Your list looks good, nice big units which is what you need. You'll struggle with 3 Places of Power because you have no tanky heroes that can survive in the middle of the board.

A Hurricanum is 1000x better than a Steamtank - it's the best peice in the old Empire range. It has serious Mortal Wound output, buffs your army in proximity and provides a hero that can last a little longer (11 wounds). On the other hand my Steamtank doesn't often make its points back during the game.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)
