Hiya

I've just started a Thousand Sons (30k) force and something just hit me - how the hell do I seal them once painted?

Normally I use testors dullcote but these guys are pretty much fully metallic and I don't want to lose that (testors sends metal colours very flat and non-metallic - which is not the same as matte which would be fine). But I also don't want to put a gloss varnish on them because I find the finish unappealing.

What do other people use to seal metallics without using gloss varnish? Does satin varnish leave enough of the metallic sheen coming through, without being glossy? What brands work well?

Any help much appreciated!

Liquitex Professional Matte Varnish works well enough. A couple thin coats usually does the job without any dulling.

Ooh really? I'll look into that, thanks!

Edit: I can only find it in liquid rather than aerosol form - but the manufacturer website says airbrush application of the liquid version will work fine.

Does anyone use that approach and if so, what do you thin it with? Regular thinner (two or three thin coats I guess)?
