I'm glad they're doing this and want to support it but I'd have strongly preferred if they had taken this opportunity to redo their old heroclix sculpts in a more consistent scale (please note that I do not mean exact scale). Regardless, at $6 including a base and apparently some decals, I'd be willing to get some of them.

Almost tempted!

For years, I've thought about getting the odd Star Trek ship, but the consistent scale (or lack thereof) keeps putting me off.

I just want a decent Excelsior class - is it too much to ask?

It's great for those who are into painting ships. Not really for me though. I have 300 and counting attack wing ships and I have no interest in painting any. I have tons of GW models sitting around if I want to paint something. Apart from being Star Trek a lot of the appeal, for me, of attack wing is gaming with out painting. Just open the box and go. But to each their own, I wouldn't fault anyone who was interested though.

What are the chances you think they'll finally redo the TOS Enterprise in a size fitting the Miranda or Enterprise refit?

I've been actually hoping for more, new ship designs for AW - I collect, but don't play - but this seems like the sort of thing you put out before you shut the entire line down.

They seem to be taking the least cost route with this. It won't appeal to everyone and it's certainly not perfect. I appreciate the opportunity to paint some of the sculpts myself at a lower cost but I'd overall have preferred them not reusing the existing old heroclix sculpts yet again and instead redoing the models for all their game lines.

I don't follow STAW too closely but from looking at recent waves I don't think there has been a new ship in a while but rather repaints of popular old ships. They're coming out with a new version of the game in a few months iirc that is supposedly compatible with existing ships so I don't think it'll go away soon (as in 2017... 2018 is anyone's guess if the new edition doesn't increase interest).

Yes I am in the same boat - have always thought the sculpts and pre-paints compare poorly to the X-Wing range.

Would be interested in these though, even more so if there are further releases and a re-launch on the way!

V2 of STAW? I'd like to hear more about that if anyone knows any links.

If they do a V2, would be nice if they moved some ships around to large bases (say, the Next Gen stuff) and had the old TOS on small bases...

It's not really a STAW 2.0, they are just updating the rule book to incorporate a lot of the rulings from the FAQ and newer game mechanics that came out after the original was made, things like shuttles, fighters, space stations.

That is a doom and gloom attitude with no basis in fact. In fact it is the opposite. Later this year WK will be releasing an updated rulebook, new card packs for various ships classes with new content, faction packs with new content. WK has also said these will be released while they continue to re-release older ships for newer players. These are not signs of a line that is being shut down.

Unpainted models has nothing to do with shutting down a line. WK is releasing unpainted models for several lines. There will be some released for their heroclix range and some more for their AD&D line. This is just a test to see how big a market there is for such a product among their players.

Releasing unpainted versions reduces costs. Issuing a new sculpt increases them. So I doubt we'll see new sculpts.

These pre-primed unpainted ships sound like the same idea as their pre-primed unpainted fantasy miniatures, that they're releasing with Paizo.

First they release cards without ships and now ships without cards Wouldn't say that's a bad thing necessarily. Besides, the paintjobs of the cardassian ships were that unfitting that I painted them myself anyway. And for others I bought alternative models to have correct scale.
