How do the TSon and SWolf special rules work in a shattered legion list? None of the other legions seem to be anywhere near as complicated as these two, which makes the lack of explicit rules for them frustrating. I think it would work out something like Covenant of Sorcerors only applies if you have a TSon warlord; Cult Arcana only would apply if you have a TSon warlord and only for Legions Astartes (Thousand Sons) units; Signs & Portents only affects and is triggered by TSon units. For Space Wolves Army Selection, the first bullet applies to the required SWolf HQ; the second bullet... is just dropped?; third bullet means none of those choices taken with Legion Astartes (Space Wolf) rule; and the fourth bullet means that if you use SWolf units to fill compulsory troop choices, those units must be Gray Slayers.

I'm looking at combining both (heresy, yes yes) which makes all this a bit overwhelming, but I *think* I have this mostly worked out. (I'm also considering just going mono-TSons and simply painting some models as SWolves to keep the rules less eye-watering. There isn't too much that's special to Space Wolves that I can't handle... I just lose some close combat flavor.)

It doesn't seem that complicated to me. If you want to run a Shattered Legions Thousand Sons/Space Wolves army your Warlord must be a Praetor or non-Consul Centurion and a Psyker, you must use one HQ per thousand points, Chaplains, Librarians, and Primus Medicae must be Thousand Sons, and any Troops other than Grey Slayers gain Support Squad.

So you've got to put a Thousand Sons Praetor or Centurion in charge, and the same-Cult-Arcana-as-the-Warlord restriction doesn't matter because your compulsory Troops don't have Cult Arcana.

Note that shattered Legions are opponent permission only. Personally I would never allow such abomination.

They weren't though. Point in case, in "A Thousand Sons" Russ and Magnus still couldn't stand each other, and Russ event sent a force of marines to 'attempt' to make Magnus go where Russ wanted him to go. The legions even came to blows durring said conflict at least twice pre nikea. Russ was a whiny baby and didn't like not getting his way/having people use spells. This is focused during said conflict where Russ threw a fit because Lorgar and Magnus didn't want to completely wipe out the civilian population of a non-compliant world and Russ did.

Russ and Magnus where throwing fits at eachother Lorgar piut a stop to it saying this isn't what Dad wants. Works since whatever their flaws at this point in the story (pre-Nikae) TS and SW are both loyal to a fault.

Also is there a gameplay benefit to shattered legions? My books haven't arrived yet. Are they OP or is it just the fluff-side that bothers people?

The Shattered Legions can be made op with certain Legion Combos. I think what most people disagree with as far as Shattered Legions made up of Wolves and Sons is that they never really would have done it and their Legion Rules are contrasting to one another to the point of being incredibly difficult to try and put them both in a Shattered Legion group.

Eh, it's you hobby, do what you like. The 'canon' isn't some sacred text you must slavishly obey at all cost. If you like the idea of Russ and Magnus neing besties then go for it, alternate timeline/head-canon/etc.
