Hello all here at Dakkadakka

First off, really nice finding this site and looking forward to using it for a soft startup.

Some about me.

My name is Jack, I'm atm 28 years of age and I've been playing WH40k for about 2 hours. My interest for WH40k escalated some years ago being reminded of DoW with the release of DoW 2. I've always found WH fascinating and wanted to start playing for quite some time. But due to money and time being at a low I've finally found both to start up. I'm starting my army with a Tau Empire Start Collecting box but at the moment I'm sitting with the Dark Vengeance Starter Pack to learn the game. Why did you pick Tau you might ask. Well Tau looks nice, I like their ranged weapons and technologies it was first AFTER I started looking more into it that I realised they're quite OP in some eyes. I'm not in this for winning all my games I'm here to have fun, learn how to play and paint some awesome miniatures.

Some questions from a newbie.

In CC when a unit is using a Pistol as a CC weapon do you still use WS vs WS to determine dice roll. Or do you use BS?

I tried looking up range for charge when counting in Bikes, cause I vaguely remember seeing in a miniwargaming battle report that they roll 3d6 and take the 2 highest but I couldnt find anything in the rulebook. Is it me remembering incorrectly or where is that written in the RB?

The Firefight mission in Dark Vengeance (1v1 normal battle game). How can that ever be a fair fight for CSM (I've might used too big of a table), cause SM can just stand back with everything focus fire their plasma cannon at the Brute and make it pretty useless unles he rolls really bad. And Terminators also just stand back with their storm bolters and assault cannon and pretty much clear everything coming their way. Or am I just doing something wrong again take in account I've played the game for a little under 2 hours.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

If a model is in close combat you would always use WS unless its otherwise specified in the units rules (IIRC I haven't seen that ever)

Any unit charging is always 2D6 however there are rules which allow re-rolling of the dice (fleet etc) so they may be shortcutting the reroll by just rolling three dice and taking the highest.

I've not played DV so I can't see if the mission is fair or not, is there terrain on the table for the helbrute to get behind for a cover save? that might save it for a turn or two.
