Sunny Middlesbrough!

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here!

Blitzkrieg Commander is one of the most popular WWII rulesets of the past decade with over 5000 copies sold and we're delighted to announce that the highly anticipated 3rd Edition is now available for pre-order! We'll officially be launching BKC-III at the Salute show on 22nd April, but you can pre-order your copy in advance, ready to ship out on Monday 24th. And as an added bonus, we've got a special discounted launch price of £20! (RRP £25) This launch offer will only be available until Sat 29th April, so head over and grab your copy now: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Rules-c37/Blitzkrieg-Commander-III-sc362/

Blitzkrieg Commander III
- Suitable for any scale miniatures, from 2mm right up to 28mm.
- Simple command system that emphasises the fog of war.
- Effective mechanism for casualty resolution.
- Flexible figure ratio meaning one base represents a platoon.
- Minimal setup time, simply assemble your forces and play.
- Contains 49 army lists covering all nations and theatres.
- Includes 15 scenarios.
- Suitable for solo, two player or multi-player games.
- No supplements, everything you need to play WWII games in one book.
- Quick Reference Sheet included.

For the existing BKC gamers, you'll probably want to know what's changed in BKC-III?

Generally, this 3rd Edition remains true to the BKC you're familiar with, but with a bit of a refresh on the text. All of the core elements remain in the game and everything should run much the way it always has. Things that you may find work slightly differently include:

Scale - Established at '1 base = 1 platoon'
Terrain (movement, visibility and cover) - Revamped and simplified in places.
Basic Actions - Now set out in defined actions list.
Unit Abilities (including profiles) - Revamped.
Command Units - Revamped and can now fight and be knocked out like other units.
Close Assault - Streamlined.
Off-table Support - Streamlined.
Engineering - Streamlined and moved to command phase.
Recce Actions - Streamlined.
Exceptions & Special Rules - Extracted into formal 'special abilities' for units.
Army Lists - Revamped and increased.

If you know and love Blitzkrieg Commander already then BKC-III should hopefully feel familiar but fresh to you. For those new to these rules, grab yourself a copy and see what everyone is talking about!

To pre-order yourself a copy, you can either buy directly through our website here: BKC-III or by contacting us using the Contact form on our website: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Contact.aspx. For anyone attending Salute, you can also pre-order a copy to collect on the day by contacting us through that same Contact Us method.

For those who prefer their rules in a digital format, BKC-III will also be launched as a pdf download on Wargame Vault on the same day as Salute, so Sat 22nd April. We'll also have a range of 1000pt Starter armies ready for the launch, more details on those coming soon.

Great news Pendraken! Can we expect an update of Cold War Commander soon?

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against it. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the end comes.

You can indeed, but it'll be towards the end of this year or early 2018 possibly. I'm taking a bit of a break from rules after all the work getting BKC ready and then I'll start looking at CWC in the summer.

How well does this ruleset work with a FoW based army? Does one base = a platoon apply to tanks as well? Is there an use for separately based weapon teams like AT rifle teams, light mortar teams, panzershreck teams, platoon/company commanders, etc?

I've played BKC II with FOW based armies and there where no issues at all. Things like AT rifles, bazookas and Panzershreck's where upgrades to platoons as opposed to bring g separate teams in their own right so there isn't much use for the small based teams I'm afraid.

Yes one tank model = 1 tank platoon.

FoW bases would work fine, no worries at all. The BKC army lists include all of those, so your mortars, 'schrecks, AT rifles, etc are all units/bases in their own right. An infantry base/unit would represent 50-ish men, a tank base/unit would be approx 3 tanks or so, artillery would be 3 guns, etc., etc.

Thanks for the answers. I'll put in an order when I stop being too lazy to register. Might never get to use the rules but I think that it'll go over a lot better with the Blackpowder guys than FoW if I ever get around to playing WW2 with them.

No worries! You can order by email as well if that works better, rather than having to register. Just drop us an email through the Contact page: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Contact.aspx

We'll also have a new website launching at the end of the month with a proper Guest checkout facility on it, I know some folks don't like having to register with an account.

This ruleset says it's compatible with any scale up to 28mm but then it also says that 1 base is 1 platoon. I can't imagine how that could work at 28mm.

It doesn't work quite as smoothly, but you can work with one base is a squad instead. You'd probably want to use the optional rule to keep the hits on at the end of each turn, to better represent the accumulation of damage to a smaller group.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Basically the ratio between the number of figures and the number of soldiers changes. So you might use a flames of war stand with 5 soldiers on it to represent a platoon of around 30, or it might just be 2 or 3 28mm figres representing a platoon. Usually at least one figure communicated anything special about it if needed. Like if the stand had an NCO, and one or two troopers with panzershreks that might tell you something about it just by looking across the table. That's how my friend did it with his 28mm in previous versions of the game when he ran games at the club.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

This is great, however, I must shame-facedly admit I didn't know that BlitzCom2 had ever happened.

Is there going to be a Cold War / Modern Commander II any time in the foreseeable future, Leon?

I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.

There is indeed, we're hoping to have CWC-II ready for release at Salute 2018 hopefully.
