So here's the idea that I've been toying with for playing Shadow War Armageddon 1v1.
Like, the game is built for campaigns with many people, but let's be real, those are hard to put together. Shoot, I spent years trying to get more than two rounds deep on a Mordheim campaign but it NEVER HAPPENED, and I was a teenager back then.

Anyway, the game is super fun, rounds go really fast, and based on playing a handful of games with two different friends, I think this would be a good way to meet up with a buddy, game for two-ish hours, and have a clear victor.

Just play totally normal rounds rolling random missions and and everything until one player has 3 more promethium caches than another player. This will likely take 2-3 games.
Once one player has 3 more caches than the other, do the final mission.
BOSS FIGHT.
The player with the three caches MUST buy the most powerful special operative on their list, the one that gives their opponent a cache if they kill it. Terminator for scouts and chaos, ogrin for imperial guard, SOME factions don't have one but shoot, just play a little fast and loose here and give an Ork player a meganob with terminator stats.
This is the boss. Now play a normal gang fight mission, but with one special rule.
The boss must either shoot at an enemy model every turn, or end his movement closer to an enemy unit. This prevents him from just hiding in a corner all game.
If the boss goes down but gets back up with a light wound (ie rolls a 1 to recover), he's now blinking red and twice as large (has frenzy and can't hide or use cover). Also the boss team can't bottle while the boss is still standing.
Whoever has the most promethium at the end of that game WINS.
This gives the player who is behind one last desperate chance to catch up, since if you were just say, going, first person to 10 promethium wins, it'd be too easy for one person to just take a massive lead after 2-3 games that the other person would never be able to catch up to.

Anyway, I think this would be a fun and simple way to do 1v1

shadow wars over the course of the same amount of time a normal Warhammer game takes.
If any of you nerds try this out lemme know how it goes!

But it is already 1v1

How they built the game is more for tourneys. SWA isn't a long lasting campaign like oldmunda. SWA is meant to be played over about 5 games in a afternoon, calculate your points at the end, and pair people up based on rankings for a winner.

Yeah, that still involves getting several people together for a campaign.
This is for when you just have yourself, one friend, and three hours to game, like with 30/40k

you said a mouthful, pal

One game of shadow wars takes 15 minutes! If you want to play a fifteen minute game that can end in two turns based on one unlucky dice roll, have fun with that! This is a way for you to play 2-5-ish games in 2-3ish hours and IF someone takes a commanding lead, the person behind still has a chance to come back.

If you don't like that, have fun PALYING whatever the heck it is that pushes your buttons.

If your games are only taking 15min, it is because

1. you don't have enough terrain...
2. one of you (if not both) is bad at the game and over exposing themselves to be bottled in no time at all

Or 3. You're playing The Raid, the defender only has one Sentry and they get taken out without triggering the alarm.

I've played 6 rounds of shadow war. During those six, I played one as guard. I borked the first bottle roll I had to make because their Ld is pretty low. That was a 15 minute game. This wasn't some weird outlier. A good chunk of your games are going to be that short, hence the idea of meeting up and doing one game is a little silly. Shoot, the miniwargaming battle report video was about that long. They spent a TON of time talking, and like half the video was the game because ORKS and they failed a bottle test the first time they had to take it.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've also had an opponent voluntarily route the second I dropped 2 of his guys because I basically had him surrounded and he had no desire to have his skitarrii cleaved up by blood angel scouts in hand to hand. That was also a 15 minute game.
