Purchased shadow war from a small store I've never been to.
It seemed really pricey after tax, but i was in a hurry.
Got home to realize they charged me $10 above MSRP + tax.

They won't return my calls.
Is this against gw policy? Should I report them, or is the joke on me for not being informed?

No they are free to charge more, it isn't against any policy. Not great practice, but they can do it.

Or pretty much any other product.

Recommended retail price is exactly that: a recommendation.

The joke is on you do are not being better informed. A store can charge whatever it wants - in most cases, charging more for something than it costs direct from the supplier is a bad idea. Best case scenario, that nets GW two sales. The copy they sold the LGS and the copy the customer buys direct because GW is cheaper. Worst case, 1 copy and it's no skin off their nose if the store can't shift it because due to silly pricing.

Normally I'd be outraged but under the circumstances you should probably just be happy you managed to get your hands on a copy. Its sold out in most places and people are pretty angry about it.

+10% over MSRP is also a far better price than you'd get from the average Ebay scalper.

He can't buy it from somewhere else? Online maybe?

If this game is already sold out and hard to find, then $10 over MSRP seems like a deal. Remember Space Hulk going for $250?

It sold out online in the US in 10 minutes, yes. You cannot currently find any place online with stock. A handful of FLGS and GW stores may have some left.

It was a limited run of what seems to be a very popular game with excellent terrain at a decent price.

I hate when the only kiosk of the beach sells the cheapest bag of doritos that in all other places cost 0,30 cents for 2€, and you need to buy something to use the only bathroom in like 5 km.

I have never felt so dirty after going to the bathroom in my life. Oh, the anger burning inside me against that Kiosk.

Maybe try to report them to GW. If it don't do nothing, at least you will be relieved of the anguish of feeling scalped.

Report them for what? Selling stuff?

It's weird that people think this is something that is uncommon or shady. Stores set their own prices for the vast majority of things sold today. They always have. And quite often those prices will be higher than the RRP of the product, for various reasons.

It's possibly becoming a little less common for stores to charge more than the recommended price, due I suspect to the internet making it so much easier for potential customers to compare prices between different stores and go with the cheapest... but it's not at all the diabolical, shady practice that some seem to think it.

No, in this case I don't think its specialy diabolical. The Kiosk one in the other hand...

My sugestion to report them to GW was not expecting anything. But sending our" anger" in an Email its better than let it just grow inside us.

Anyone in the upstate NY area, Zombie Planet had multiple copies left when I was there earlier today. I've had two stores now offer me copies; which I turned down. The internet MUST hate me right now. Well, anyone who wanted a copy and didn't get one anyway.

Those who want it can't get it, those who don't want it have it pushed!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

No, its not. From the product description,

This product will be released in stores on Saturday 8th April but is no longer available for pre-order here. Find your local store.

Available while stocks last!

You'll also note the lack of a button allowing you to add it to your shopping cart.

While it's certainly not illegal, it could very well be interpreted as, lets go for disingenuous.

As such, contacting the right person at GW may be worthwhile, as potentially, this sort of thing is something that could end up reflecting badly on GW. Particularly if it's something the store makes a habit of doing - it's going to be a PR thing, not a legal / contract thing.

Why would the actions of an independent retailer, someone GW has no control over beyond their contract reflect badly on GW? I don't think poorly of a company just because a convenience store charges more for their product than the local supermarket does.

That contract is quite a lot of control.

Stores could also be a big deal for GW, they're the outreach, especially in America, it could be the only source of GW product within dozens of miles.

A leap from "don't by from that store, because they rip you off" to "don't buy GW products, you'll get ripped off" isn't that far. - Especially since people say that about their standard prices.

Does it include a set maximum price? And what if they purchased their stock from a distributor, like Alliance?

In this day and age when anyone can hop on the internet and see what GW and other retailers are selling the product for, it's a huge leap.

MSRP is "Manufacturer's suggested retail price".

Not "Mandated & Stipulated Retail Price."

and GW will not care, thats like complaining about a scalper on eBay who gets their product straight from GW too. also you going to complain about people who sell GW products for less then MSRP too?

As far as I am aware, GW do quite regularly get irate with stores they find selling their products on ebay.

I also know, from personal experience, that GW get irate with stores taking money for GW product they don't have. - After receiving many complaints about an online store claiming to stock GW product it didn't have, GW eventually decided to cancel their contract with the store entirely. This store then renamed itself and no longer does online trading as a result. This was not the result of any legal action, that I'm aware of, but was purely a result of the store acting disingenuously and their actions making Games Workshop look bad.

None the less, that anecdote is beside the point. The OP loses nothing for contacting GW. He may get a $10 web voucher, for example.

Anything else, GW will do what it believes is best for GW and, agree with me or not, I believe it's possible that GW may find such events as stores providing unreasonable or secretive markups a case for Games Workshop re-evaluating the terms of its relationship with that store.

and they still will not care, as to stores selling items online, GW does have it in their contracts they cannot sell items that can be put into an online cart, but it still does not stop them, I personally know of more then a dozen stores which sell product on eBay and have a contract with GW.
