Hello everyone,

I've recently started selling a range of painting trays and project boxes I designed as part of the work for my final year at University. It is part of a very long term project that has been in development for nearly two years now so I am excited to finally share it.

The range is designed around the idea of having multiple projects on the go at once and keeping the models tidy and dust free while they're not being worked on. The solution was a set of easily collapsible stacking boxes topped off with a portable work surface.

This allows brushes, paints, models and tools to be quickly moved from a surface (such as a dining table or computed desk) and then returned later with minimal set up time. How many times have you had ten minutes or so to paint but all your stuff is packed away?
(Or if you're like me and always have a bunch of projects on the go at once, somehow managing to mix up parts and spend ages hunting for where you put them. That's valuable painting time!)

The main design is the medium desk tray with a number of modelling boxes (Tray is 28cm long x 28cm high x 11cm tall.) This kit is best used for multiple small modelling or painting projects.

For example as a clean up area for assembling models as it prevents plastic shavings getting all over your main painting area. It can also be used as a portable work surface for painting in front of the TV or with family. The etched grid on the tray is optional and can be left blank if preferred.
The boxes provide additional dust-free storage for tools and models, allowing you to have multiple active projects at once in a small space. They stack with guide rails on each side that prevent them from sliding or toppling.

Each box can comfortably hold up to 120 Vallejo style dropper bottles or 144 new style Citadel pots (double stacked) so plenty of room to use them as dedicated paint storage too.

Separate trays and additional boxes are also available:

The second design is the large desk tray (54cm long x 28cm wide x 11cm tall.) Designed to be the main work station and painting area it has twice as much room as the medium tray and also has two brush/ knife holders. Like all the designs it is fully collapsible as it assembles without glue.
While the medium tray is great for smaller projects it struggles a bit when working on large models and vehicles which is where this design shines, plenty of room for paints and brushes on the main area with smaller model parts sitting safely on the shelf above.

All of the designs feature knock down fittings allowing them to be completely flat-packed when not in use or for transport, the underside of each tray is also slightly raised on small feet to prevent them scratching or sticking to any surfaces they are placed on.

I also have some scatter terrain designs available that will eventually form part of a sizeable range including a full modular city with street tiles and multi-level buildings, very much the main focus of the project and the reason it has taken so long!

Many more photos and prototypes of the terrain can be seen on the companion website at http://laserscape.weebly.com/, mainly in the instructions section. The site is very much in development so doesn't represent the final design, lots of learning still to do!
Feel free to shout if there are any prototypes that are particularly interesting and they can be focused on, so far it's been a lot of jumping from project to project so lots just need some final refinement before they are ready for sale!

All the products are of course manufactured in-house with an industrial laser cutter and this ensures much faster delivery than outsourcing.

They are also supplied fully cut rather than attached to a sprue, I never liked the idea of sprues for wooden parts as punching them out always left frayed edges that needed cleaned up, surely better to just cut them completely first time.

Thanks for looking!

Chris
