This week I went to a local eight man tournament at the nearby Games Workshop store. It ended up being a fun event and I did a decent job at remembering to take pictures between concentrating on the games.

If you'd like to take a peek at the games I did one massive Battle Report (split up by Round) on my Blog. Here are the Round pairings if anyone is interested beforehand:

Destruction vs. Stormcast Eternals
Destruction vs. Sylvaneth
Destruction vs. Disciples of Tzeentch

All games were 2000 Points Matched Play with fixed Scenarios from the General's Handbook, there was also an optional 500 Point Sideboard.

Thank for reading and feel free to post any feedback or things you'd like to see in future Battle Reports, I'm always trying to improve.

Nice read and a long one but worth the time, thank you for taking the time to write it up

Really like the format, always good to see written reports.

I know your coming from a competitive standpoint, but is it not a little dull if your trouncing every match? Each battle seemed to be over by turn two with the rest being a mopping up job. Just getting into age of sigmar myself as an alternative to 40k, but would you say that the ability to annihilate your opponent if you go hyper competitive more or less likely than 40k?

I haven't played 40K in quite some time, I think I stopped a year or so before 7th Edition dropped. From what I've seen 40K is still a bit worse, you can get tabled Turn 1 practically by some armies! It is a bit dull rolling people over, unfortunately I only own so many models and can't make a softer list with what I have. It also depends on the event, the locals at the GW store by me are all pretty casual but the meta closer to where I live is more competitive. I'm hoping to get some more stuff and have list flexibility, there's actually a tournament coming up for my League that has a lot of store credit for 1st so if I'm fortunate enough to win that, it'd help.

Personally I'm hopeful that the very few outliers that AoS has will be hit with a bit of a hammer in the next General's Handbook. Both Blades of Khorne and Kharadron are pretty fair armies, a few units just need to be toned down and I think AoS will be the best balanced game I've played in my 10+ years in the hobby.

Thanks for the writeup. It was an enjoyable read.

I have a comment about your Sylvaneth opponent. To my understanding, he has a High Elf Loremaster in his list, which means that it cannot be Sylvaneth allegiance, which means he does not have access to the Sylvaneth artefacts nor their command traits.

Awesome question and yeah I thought that originally when I first played against Sylvaneth. However if you read the General's Handbook FAQ, page one describes that if you take a Battalion with models who don't have the Allegiance Keyword, the example they use is Stromcast and Sylvaneth, the other models gain the relevant keyword. So in this situation the Loremaster gains Sylvaneth and he gets to retain the Allegiance.

That is only if the warscroll battalion includes units from other allegiances. For example, the Guardians of Alarielle warscroll includes both Sylvaneth and Stormcast models. The FAQ was meant to clarify that that type of warscroll would be considered the allegiance of whatever it says it was (which is Sylvaneth for that particular warscroll). The only way the Loremaster could be included in the army and have the army remain Sylvaneth still is if Household Battalion or Gnarlroot Wargrove battalions in his army allow for non-Sylvaneth units in them.

Btw, Loremaster are of Order or Highborn allegiances.

Gnarlroot does allow 0-1 Order Wizard, which he slots into.

Ok, then that is fine. I wasn't too familiar with the Sylvaneth battalions.

No problem, I should have made that more clear in my OP. I got the same feedback when I posted on Reddit.

I will have another report up sometime today/tomorrow with my doing voice over. Really hoping to get feedback on that one because I think I have a lot of room to improve with that format.

Thanks for doing this, I actually enjoy the written reports rather than a video rep since I can take more time understanding the tactics used in here. Also I enjoy reading a story.
