After playing in a tournament a couple days ago and having two of my three games without winning a single initiative roll, I am curious, are there any armies in Age of Sigmar that either give a bonus the initiative roll or provide a reroll on it? It is really not helpful going second in every turn. :(

Thanks!

The re-rolls from a Seraphon Skink Starseer can be used to re-roll your dice or make your opponent re-roll theirs, or both.

Really shifts the odds very heavily in your favour if you hold onto those re-rolls.

Hmmm, well Seraphon are in the Order Alliance, just as my Stormcast guys are, perhaps I need to bring in an ally.

Are there really no other models or armies that have a turn initiative bonus or dice roll modifier?

Kairos could do this, but they changed his rules. IMO it's a strong rule and it would lead to a lot of abuse, since it enables things like double turn skryrefire.

It's very powerful. There was good reason to take it away from Kairos

The Everchosen get a battalion that lets them change the way turn order is rolled if Archaon is close to a Gaunt Summoner. It's still random 50/50, but the Everchosen player always knows at the start of their turn who's going first next turn, and may plan accordingly (the opposing player does not).

That said, it's 1300 points for 5 models, and the Varanguard are overcosted. They're not necessarily bad, but it's an extremely heavy investment. You also end up overlapping on your casters since Archaon won't have enough spells to cast on his own without eating someone. It doesn't necessarily make the battalion worse, but it does make Archaon less point-efficient.

its a shame then, that you can only give the tzeentch keyword to varanguad during your hero phase, otherwise you could have had the tzeench aligence and give all wizards an extra spell

It's something that I really hope gets changed for GHB2.0. As of now, for as cool as the Varanguard are, they're overcosted even before you consider how hard it is to to fit them in an army thanks to their high cost and allegiance. The fact that they force you into a battleline tax in spite of the fact that they can follow any cult just makes it even worse.

Fyreslayers have a battalion that can give a huge bonus, Lord's of the Lodge. It isn't bad but you'll need a heavy Fyreslayer investment to take it.
