...sooo...yeah.

I'm fairly familiar with the ideas of the characters ... but no thanks to this trailer, alas.

..soo...

err

..maybe ..?

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

They were street level characters, like Daredevil and Punisher, with one having the ability to turn light into weapons and the other could wield darkness to suck people, and things, into a dark dimension or something like that. In the comics the guy that can manipulate dark energy is just a floating cloak with a face for the most part. They also weren't teenagers.

Spoiler:

Also apparently Freeform is ABC Family just renamed.

This isn't really the C&D that I had been hoping for. It's really "off", when street drug addiction is supposed to be a core concept, and would feed into the Jessica Jones / Power Man / Daredevil stuff really naturally.

In the comics they certainly were teenagers, it was stated that Dagger was 16 when first shown and Cloak was maybe a year older or so. It was actually source of modest controversy since Spider-Man kinda had hots for Dagger.
Trailer gives impression that they are sticking pretty close to the origin story.

C&D were hugely popular in their initial run as Spider-Man recurring characters. However they are REALLY difficult to write well since much of their appeal is based on contrasts and contradictions. They were young and kinda naive, yet they were ruthless killers methods little different from Punisher. Spidey wanted to protect them (especially Dagger) yet couldn't accept their murderous ways. Dagger always wanted to become normal human, whereas Cloak didn't. Cloak was in love with Dagger, who only saw Cloak as a brother. And so on. It was hard for writers to avoid pitfalls of repeating the themes over and over again. Their own title quickly became a tiresome repetition. Most guest writers did not understand the characters and wrote them as lovers or something equally stupid.

What they probably should do is Spiderman vs Cloak & Dagger movie. This is where the duo would work well. Stand-alone, they are hard to write and their own series never had a good villain (except Father Delgado who was more of a support character).

Why was it a controversy? Spider started out in HS and I thought he was still in HS when they came about? Or was he in college and they joined up during Maximum Carnage? I'm a bit fuzzy on their introduction.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Weird. Every comic I read that they were in, including a few C&D comics, they never came across as that young. Maybe the artists doing them have trouble making them not look mid-twenties.

I dunno about this one.. don't know the characters at all, and it just seemed too teenagery to me, like they wanted the CW but CW said no because Arrow is DC

Well, that's a common problem with comics, hard to draw people's age. Also it's not like they lived common teenage lives. In fact they did not have civilian lives at all, something Spidey always chastised them for:

As for the trailer, it is clearly from the pilot which shows their life BEFORE they became Cloak & Dagger, and as such seems to be following pretty close to the comic.

I asked someone else about it and they also said they were teens but that they were often not drawn looking like they were teens.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I mean, this one has been explicitly pitched as a YA series, so yeah that's about what I was expecting, and it's unlikely it'll go within a hundred miles of the Netflixverse tone. Probably going to give it a miss unless it ends up with rave reviews.

I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The trailer doesn't work for me. This isn't the real C&D, this is an alternate universe C&D

Teen drama? Bored already.

Also "One will live, one will die." is basically the plot of Hancock.

Its almost like I don't even have to see it to know every major plot point because every teen drama is about as different as the songs on a Backstreet Boys album

Im fine with it. It will live or die by the actors. If cloak and dagger are well played and given a good plot it can be really enjoyable. If its another agents of shield it will be crap.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I'm a fan of Olivia Holt, and the kid playing Cloak seems to have it down, so I have high hopes.

That being said, since I like the looks of it, I imagine it'll fail hard. Everybody seems to hate what I like and vice versa nowadays...

I think it's just going to have to prove itself. The presentation is really generic and there's just so many cliches in the teen drama department. I'll watch it cause I liked Cloak and Dagger in the few comics I saw them in but I'm definitely skeptical that the utter trash pit of teenage adventure stories can be salvaged at this point.
