So with the 40k reboot around the corner (https://warhammer40000.com/), one wonder; will there be a reset for 30k as well?
Since our core rules comes from 7th edition rules i mean and that book together will the various codex will soon removed from the stores.
Or will we see a basic free rule sheet coming out?
Don´t want to have toss all red books away and start all over :p

Words =)

There wont be any sort of reboot, however eventually forgeword will port the 8th edition rules to heresy. There isnt any set date for it however.

6th ed red books became obsolete not long after production. I'd have thought that they would want to align with the new rule set quickly, unless they are prepared to offer the 7th ed rules as a free or cheap download.

Chat in my gaming group is that everyone likes and wants to stick with 7th. I'll just see what 8th brings.

Yeah, I say as you JamesY; GW/FW probably want to align the new rules for 30k as well rather quick.

What that means however...
GW says that all current rules for 7h and all the codex will be out of date and not work with 8th edition. Will all previous red books from FW to 30k follow that or what?

Obviously those who like 7th can (and probably will) stick with it =)

Or, 30k will stay with the 7th edition core rules and continue work with that. Even though the books soon will be gone the core rules can become available for free.
Imo, 30k players are fairly experienced, they have played 40k before or WH fantasy or, well something. 30k players are not in the situation that a reboot is needed, not in the same way 40k needs it anyway :p

30k wont stay long term 7th edition as the rule book is being taken out of print. The red books will also become obsolete maybe we will see 8th edition ones in the future. It will receive a reboot in terms of core rules but I expect forgeworld will try adapt the system best to have things work as close to as they had intended then to work in 6/7th as allowed by the new rules.

This is also why it will take time unlike the imperial armour you it's for 40k where they simply adapt them to 8th rules. Horus heresy units are more about fitting the same vision and function as originally intended which has been the style for them since the beginning as it's a more thematic system. Thus it will take a while as forgeworld needs to work within the new rule set to create the same themes and functions.

There is a ton of things that can happen.

FW could release it's own rule book, that's got all of the 7th rules, but swaps out the changes, such as the Force Orgs, missions, includes FAQ's, etc.

From the Warhammer 40,000 Community Page FAQ:

A few of you might be wondering how the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 affects Forge World’s Horus Heresy rules and army lists. Well, for the moment, it won’t! You can carry on using the existing Warhammer 40,000 ruleset for your Horus Heresy games.

It would seem Forge World is not ready to adapt all the Horus Heresy books to 8th Edition yet. That might be because the HH books are meant to be premium, collectable books, and rewriting them for 8th might be too big of a task for their department. Or, they only have three more Legions to detail- Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and White Scars. Didn't FW state they were planning at least two more books? They might continue using 7th Ed until they finish out the series, then convert over. At least, that's what I hope they do.

I imagine, since 8ed 40k is meant to have rules for all models upon release, FW are pretty busy at the moment updating everything they make for 40k (which already includes a lot of Heresy-era units).

Makes sense to give them a few months to catch up so they can update Heresy too. I can't see GW allowing them to release their own 7ed rule book and run two different systems - one of the prime drivers of Heresy sales is that it's so easy to switch from 40k.

The sensible time to do this would probably be with the release of Angelus.

Personally, if 8ed 40k is the faster, simpler, better system then I can't see myself playing much Heresy until it's updated too - I don't want two sets of rules in my head...

They plan on 15 books so it halfway so far. So there is 0 chance they wait to finish the series it started in 6th ed and will likely finish in 9th edition. They also plan on doing a lot more detailing than 3 legions in terms of lists the next book is supposed to have 4 army lists (daemons dark angels dark mech blood angles) and updated night lords. White scars aren't likely to get a book until late next year.

They don't be reprinting the old black books for 8th edition just like how many of the current ones are 6th edition rules and they never put the updates in older black books. They are collectors items and the majority of the content is fluff and artwork.

The red books are meant to be pure army list based and it is likely we see new Redbooks and if we don't it will be because they went all digital same as the aos app.
