Things have gone from bad to worse, the eye of terror is larger and now there is eye of terror style rifts all over the galaxy. The Tau now control an area of space almost as big as the original eye of terror, and the Necrons of the Sautekh dynasty appear to have made gains in Ultima Segemtum, such as Attila, so I think we know what happened to the rough riders. Most telling Kar Duniash is also part of the Necron territory, which was the main naval base for the imperium in Ultima Segmentum, so that seems like a big win for the Necrons. The Rock has moved to support of Armageddon, anyone notice anything else new?

Has the rocked moved to support Armageddon or is it on its way to the Plant of the Sorcerers.

It's possible before this the last known place for the rock was above Fenris, So they could be heading to Prospero. Though Chaos got one in the win column, Abaddon split the galaxy in half.

No info on the Tyranids on the map. Unless I am blind.

There is not, but Tyranids do not 'Hold' territory

You also note there are no Craft Worlds

I'm surprised at the tiny blob that is the Tau Empire. The Necrons seem to have made vastly superior gains in territory when compared to them, of course this isn't accounting for how densely populated that area of space is.

Well, the necrons are a vastly bigger faction number wise, it could just denote a large amount of tomb worlds under Imotekh's command awakening at the same time.

Cool, they're definetly changing the setting. Nice to see something on such a massive scale.

The one thing I noticed is that Ultramar appears to be huge. It used to have 8 planets but from the map black reach seems to be includes. That'd make enormous in comparisson to before. Going from a single system to an area larger then the Tau empire.

Do we have a "Low Gothic" translation for the Cicatrix Maledictum? I'm guessing it's the Daemon Scar, the Scar of Chaos or something similar.

one of his first actions after waking up in GS3, Gulliman reversed the decision that set most of the 500 worlds of Ultramar free (as chaos was rampaging across the area no one argued)

It is cool to see how the Necrons have expanded into the power vacuum created by the collapse of Imperial power in the Eastern Fringe, could GW be setting them up for a conflict with the Tau empire I wonder?
I would be nice to see more conflicts which don't involve the Imperium.

I'm a little disappointed that many of the Ork empires are not represented here, especially the two (Gathrog and Dregruk) north of the Eye of Terror which I was hoping would get a mention now that Chaos is expanding in that area!
Hopefully the Orks will get a bigger part in the story next edition.

I love that they included a bunch of the FFG Dark Heresy locations, such as the Calixis Sector and the Hadex Anomaly.

I guess between the Nids and Orks Octaria gets vaporized. Another over sized shokk attack gun made for orky exterminatus? Between Kyptmann''s story and the follow up with Ghazzy''s story progression I figured there be more about that planet.

Presumably they're just saving information about the Orks and Nids for a future release. I would love to see more of them on the map, obviously, but not every map has every bit of information when we're dealing with something as large as the 40k galaxy.

Keep in mind that of the 40k RPGs, the core lore of the Calixis Sector was written by GW, under Black Industries, not FFG. The existence of the Hadex Anomaly on 40k maps also predates its Deathwatch lore by a number of years. You'll note there's no references to things like the Screaming Vortex or the Koronus Expanse.

Blasphemy/Curse scar? Cicatrix is definitely scar, and Maledictum is "a foul saying, abusive word", it hints that someone will split the galaxy with a single word, Probably Abaddon. Terra didn't explode so it's probably not the pronouncement the emperor is dead that splits the galaxy, though that would be an interesting way for it to happen. It's also possible it's something that Magnus did.

As for Necrons, maybe the 8th ed box will be Necrons vs. Ultramarines, which would be glorious. As the most powerful species of Xenos (fight me!) It might be time for the Necrons to get some time in the sun.

Wouldn't the necrons or Orks also be powering up to hit Chaos? The Orks love a good fight, and Necrons would be antithetical to chaos.

Inversely would the orks not be powering up to fight their old racial enemies (Necrons) who have finally decided to come out and play (aka get a good krumpin).

And it looks like Fenris is caught in the line in the galaxy. Just where we want to be!

Immohtek really hates Orks, so it's possible there is a battle brewing. Necrons can't be corrupted by chaos, and have the ability to lock the imaterium away as we saw in the fall of the Cadian gate, so they are probably pretty high on Abaddon's naughty list. However, there is basically what's left of the IoM between them, so I don't think it will go beyond skirmishes.

I have no idea how to read this map, what is Imperial or what is anything else. I call heresy.

Fair enough. It's still nice that they're not forgotten - even if it doesn't go into the depth of detail that FFG did.

All the purple black stuff is space that has fallen into the warp (or, at least to chaos aligned forces). All of those hard to see thin-lined boxes mark smaller empires (mostly Necrons, though the Tau and Ultramarienes have their own as well.) All the white stuff that is not in a box belongs to the IoM. Orks are marked by ork heads, though no indication is given to how much territory they control. Eldar and Nids are not present at all and some planets have moved.

Overall it is a confusing and not particularly informative map, but I think it is suppose to be like that. Reminds me of those old maps of the world from the 1500s.

The black dots are stars or more accurately star clusters (it's a negative image), white spots are "empty" space. Purple is warp storm regions.

Yeach if those paltry few ork symbols represent ork territory it appears they got heavily culled back. 7th codex had lots of green all over the galaxy and fluff has said for years that orks held the most territory even over the Imperium. What I'm seeing isn't even 1/5 the territory previously shown in or control

Nah, I think that's just the most major Ork kingdoms-- similar to how only the most major Guard homeworlds or Space Marine recruiting worlds are shown. For the most part, you could stick a big sign over the galaxy that says "Here There Be Orks" and it's pretty accurate.
