Shane here,

Haven't played anything in a really long time. Old school D&Der (red box) old school Batteletech.
Looking to get back into something....almost anything at this point.
Blood Bowl has caught my attention, but does not seem popular. As a kid we had a couple copies in the neighborhood and would have a match every now and then.
Flames of War looks fun, and I'm a WW2 history nerd, so perhaps that.
I also like the idea of WH and WK40k, however I don't know where to start on those. Used to collect and paint the models in high school (early 90s) but never really got to playing.
Used to do alot of Warhammer 40K Epic, loved that game, fast playing, not complex, hundreds of troops. We used to play Epic and Battletech in a campaign setting that we created. Found an old map of some kind, had events, resource management etc. Had to take over lands. It was fun because a player would be interested in the survival of his troops for use in the next battle. Not just a one off fight somewhere.
Anyways, looking forward to finding the cure for my itch, hoping you all can help.

Hey man, I live in Colorado as well and I'm also just getting back into 40k. A new edition is dropping soon that will upend everything, so keep that in mind if that's the game you choose. I don't know much about any other games, or which ones are popular around here, but I do know that people play weekly 40k and AoS games at a few game stores.

Well you may just be my guy! I don't know anyone who is playing anything right now.

I'd be totally down to play some games, it's going to take me a while to finish my army though. Right now I'm shooting for a 1000 point chunk and I'm about a quarter of the way through that. I have the mini 7th edition rule book, and I think we could get by without buying any codices until the new edition. Let me know if you decide to jump into 40k. I'm building a DA Ravenwing army right now, so if you want to start a Chaos army I might be willing to split a Dark Vengeance set or two with you.

I think I may just hang on until that 8th edition comes out. It looks as if the core rules will be free. Which is really cool. I looked at the warhammer website and a couple factions have caught my eye so far.

Hey guys,

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread... my wife and I are buying a house this summer and I'm looking forward to having some space to set up a table. I've played on and off over most of the editions, but I agree, 8th might be a chance to learn or re-learn together.

I'm pretty much starting from scratch as well. It would be great to start off with some others in the same boat.

What game stores in the Denver metro do you all like?

The Square One GW store is very small but seems pretty active. The manager there is a cool guy. The Wizard's Chest doesn't have a huge selection of models, but they carry the entire line of Vallejo Game Color for $3.50 per bottle, and the Army painter primers for the cheapest price I've ever seen. They have 40k night every Tuesday. There are a couple of other stores I've heard of but haven't been to.

I'm in Castle Rock, and would be down for some stuff.

Have two sizable painted wh40k armies, but would be down for some mordheim'ish/necromunda/shadowwar or even Blood Bowl.

GW Store in Denver "wouldn't let me" bring my Death Korps of Krieg army for some reason, since they're all Forge World miniatures. Strange.

When was that? The newest manager seems super relaxed by GW standards.

If you're in Arvada I'd recommend Hobby Town in Westminster (92nd and Wadsworth) Lots of play space and a really good selection of Age of Sigmar, WH40K and Warmahordes models. I'd also recommend the Boulder GW. Andy, the operator is great and its an active seen. If you're on Facebook check out Colorado Warhammer 40K for going on around the state.

Crit Castle games in Aurora is awesome, but most of the area is GW wasteland (noone touches it) but if you are interested in guildball, malifaux, warmahordes, xwing, what have you, its the place to be. https://www.yelp.com/biz/crit-castle-games-aurora has a facebook page

Denver Central Gaming is a good place for 40k, no AoS last I checked, http://denvercentralgames.com/

Collector mania in parker is THE place to be for Battletech, they have a facebook group and one of the most active and sizeable game organizations I have seen in Colorado. https://www.collectormaniaparker.com/ Colorado Btech has a facebook page too.

Enchanted grounds is really good for magic and warmahordes, I believe they have X-wing, but not sure.. http://www.enchantedgrounds.com/

and of course there is Colpar for X-wing, 40k and some others http://www.colpar.com/games.html

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Do you all know if there are any models for the upcoming WH40k available yet?

It's all the same models... GW has said "everything we sell will have rules at release" or something to that tune. We don't know how armies will be structured yet, nor have we seen statlines or special rules to know if certain units punch above their weight, but presumably the same basic units will remain essential. It's too soon to draft a whole army, but if there's a faction you're already committed to, it probably isn't too soon to buy a basic unit and HQ and start painting.

Glad to hear there's a critical mass of ready gamers in Denver!

Ah, cool, thank you Mac. I'm really liking the look of the Eldar Fire Prism. Was thinking about picking one up but didn.t want it to be obselete right away.
