I never played that much fantasy consistently but I would like to give Age of Sigmar a shot as I look at getting back into GW lines after a few years away. Back in Warhammer Fantasy I had considered Vampire Counts a few times based on liking the aesthetic of the undead horde so I thought I would give it a try in AoS.

Based on what I know of the game's meta at the moment I do not necessarily expect something built around the Deathrattle Legion of Death to be extremely competitive but I would like to get the list to at least playable in a casual environment before buying/building it. Any thoughts on changes to this list would be quite helpful.

Arkhan The Black Mortarch Of Sacrament (included mostly because his model comes in the start collecting box)

Necromancer (mounted)

Wight King (mounted) with Baleful Tomb Blade, using Infernal Standard

Black Knights x10

Grave Guard x10, using Great Wight Blades

Skeleton Warriors x30

Skeleton Warriors x30

Skeleton Warriors x30

Legion of Death battalion

There were about 240 points left over. In ideal world I would prefer to throw in some Tomb Kings chariots but that seems to be outside of the official rules now and there does not seem to be much that those models would proxy to.

I considered throwing in another unit of Black Knights but it seemed odd to have a unit of these outside of the battalion. Bulking the one unit in it to 20 seemed awkward as well, plus I wanted to bulk up a little from 8 drops on the table. Another possibility was zombies and a corpse cart but that kind of anvil seemed highly repetitive with the skeleton blocks. Any thoughts on a good selection or selections to round out the list in that points range would be appreciated.

Morghasts. Archai swing 3 times at -2 rend and 3 damage, and are resilient even to mortal wounds. Harbringers have an 18" charge range with 5 attacks a piece at -1 rend and 2 damage. All of this for 240 points on a 6 wound 4+ save model is pretty awesome. They kill characters like no ones business. They can hurt pretty much anything they want and hit and wound on 3's which isn't anything to sneeze at either.

Big blobs of Skeletons are pretty good due to the stacked bonuses. You might even want to up them to 2 units of 40 so that they stay above the magical 30 models threshold for longer. 120 dice with +1 to hit for being near a Hero will put a dent in almost anything. Probably worth giving some of them spears to make sure that as many as possible can make their attacks. Give the Wight King Ruler of the Night to boost your Deathless Minions roll and this horde will not go away in a hurry.

Morghast Harbingers make a great "jack-in-the-box" unit. Give the Necromancer the Sword of Unholy Power so that he can guarantee to summon them.

I stand between the darkness and the light. Between the candle and the star.

With what he said below, is take one of the units of thirty and make it a unit of 10, upping the other two units to 40. You then spread that unit of ten out in front, creating a sacrificial wall. Trapping an enemy within this small unit so that the big blob gets to charge etc. is very useful. Or even one unit of 40, one unit of30 and two units of 10. Same concept.
