running amok, against the reality of defeat

I don't play 40k anymore, hav'nt since 4th ed(bought the first copy of RT my local had, and loved it. Lost that love shortly after 4th ed). But I read quite a lot of the books.

I am up to date on the HH books, and mostly like what comes out from the Black Library.

I was wondering if there are any books on the return of Roboute Guilliman and all the new events in the 40k universe? As I said, I don't play anymore, so I'm not interested in game or campaign books, just books about whats going on.

Thanks.

no NOVELS cover it, however the story of Gulliman's return is covered in the book titled "Gathering storm 3: Rise of the Primarch" (the first two gathering storm books may be worth reading as well for context) it's one of the better books put out by GW from a fluff prespective

the good news is since the rules in that book'll be obselete very soon, chances are you'll be able to pick it up for a song on ebay

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Some recent audioplays that were touted as the first pieces of fluff taking place after Guilliman's resurrection have him make cameos. However those stories center more around Inquisitor Greyfax and Yvraine.

I wish BL would stop pimping audioplays so hard, I like curling up in bed with a book. thats harder to do with an audio drama

There are now the following books (maybe a bit late to this post - so more for reference) - and probably in this order:

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/novels/emperors-legion-ebook.html
\--> mostly focuses on the Sisters of Battle and Custodes.... but there is some Guilliman action

http://www.blacklibrary.com/coming-soon/november/the-devastation-of-baal-ebook.html
\--> I have not read this one yet becuase its not quite released yet, but if you know the story then you probably can guess where Guilliman comes into this....

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/novels/dark-imperium-the-last-faithful-son-ebook.html
\--> This is all Guilliman, but set 100 years after his return at the end of his Indomitus Crusade... its worth knowing a little background before reading this (i.e. who the fek the Primaris Space Marines are)... that really had me stumped!

So there are a few bits out there in novel format... but its still quite thin on the ground. Dark Imperium does explain quite a few things.... but does not really cover the actual story of the return of big G.

Here is the short version.

Sailor moon convinces the space clowns to help her.
Sailor moon murders a craftworld.
Sailor moon kisses princess girlyman and wakes him up.
Sailor moon laughs at everyone declaring her self the biggest load of mary sue plot armor since mat ward, while returning mat ward to the game.

In war there is poetry; in death, release.

I'll second Dark Imperium after the book 3 of Gathering Storm. Dark Imperium does fill in a lot of gaps but most importantly it lets you in on RGs mind set, what his plans may be, and how others perceive him, how he views his father's legacy, religion, etc. (He really hates skulls and gothic architecture). Like how Marneus Calgar is barely holding it together since he is basically dethroned from being the 2nd most powerful human in the Galaxy, or how much RG really can't stand Cato Sicarius but he still knows he has potential. Plus it lets you know about a lot of the motivations of your standard Primaris marine, many of whom are freshly stasis revived from the 31st millennium and are completely lost over how much the galaxy has fallen. Also Cawl is basically utterly insane but he has all the tools to save the Imperium if anyone will let him. Quite an enjoyable if not brief read.

Edit: even in the book they have an assault by Primaris marines (intercessors, agressors, and hellblasters) and the Captain keeps thinking, "man, i really wish I had the flexibility of some tactical squads and heavy weapons right now"
