Need to shave off 1 point, but any thoughts gents? The Venator seems a bit misplaced but then again if an opponent takes a LR I need something to crack it with.

Thanks.

Why not give the Praetor a Power fist instead of a Paragon blade?

Hi Tactical_Spam,

I just figured that with the Terror squad hes being escorted by and them effectively wounding on S7 due to talent for murder(situational) and the heavy chainblades, whilst giving the Srg the PF I needed some cleave for AP2.

Worst case if I bump into Termie's he should be able to deal with them.

Which also reminds me, can you equip two paragon blades and does the strength value then stack? Likewise gaining the +1 attack for paired weapons?

Thanks,

Well a Paragon blade is a specialist weapon so if you gave the Praetor a Power fist, he could either attack with the Paragon blade at I5 or with the fist at I1 but still have +1 attack for having two specialist weapons.

Right I see, gives me more flexibility!

Any thoughts on the Venator?

I like Venators, but usually they get targeted down T1 because it is your only really heavy AT.

I like rules of threes when building my list, have three units that can fulfill the same purpose (IE: Anti Tank, vets with melta sprinkled in, leviathan, and a venator) that way your main anti tank won't be destroyed and leave you with nothing. Of course my example is just an example, but keep that in mind. Its usually never just slotting a good specialized unit into your lists.

I would scrap the Damocles and the Anvillus Terror squad and make room for a CML Leviathan in a Pod. You don't really need the Apothecaries in the Terror Squads. Yea, it seems great on paper, but it isn't that huge of a force multiplier to justify the cost, imo. I would also be inclined to find points for Anvillus pods for the Terminators to guarantee their arrival on T1, especially if they have Combi-Meltas. Gives you more avenues for Melta against non-AC units (Knights) and gives you 2+/4++ dudes to help take some heat off the Terror squads that arrive.

Just some thoughts.

Also, you have zero AA ability, which could hurt. Fire Raptors and Lightnings are pretty common.

Hey Em,

I feel the problem with the one Heavy Support option in a Terror RoW , whilst a CML Leviathan is a nice addition, its often a single (Shoot Me) target. That and it's quite a point sink at approx 410 inc pod and AC. Something that will only be targeted as soon as it drops, much like my Venator but for 190 pts diff. Yeah it can prob's wreck face when its down, but the Ven has a good chance to also do that.

Either way its a tough call on that one.

I can defo understand the Anvillus on the Termies, making sure they get in is a good idea. Also to fit in the Dreadclaws; minus the Damocles/x2 geared Termies only leaves a -37 pts diff. Still sorta seems a waste given their unique ability to teleport/DS in, and that's another 2+/4++ I lose, plus two more combi-melta shots.

My other question would be if the drop pods are worth it on the Terror Squads. Given they can Infiltrate? Being able to drop in and mow down enemy squads with Volkite is fraking awesome given the re-rolls of 1 as well.

At this point I was going to write up a mega description of other thoughts, but that would bore the nuts off people. I've created a draft list quickly so its easier to visualise:

++ The Age of Darkness (Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List) [2497pts] ++

+ HQ +

Legion Praetor [160pts]: Artificer Armour, Digital Lasers, Iron Halo, Paragon Blade, Power Fist

+ Elites +

Legion Terminator Squad [376pts]: Chainfist, 2x Combi-Weapon, 4x Legion Terminators, 2x Pair of Lightning Claws, Power Fist, Terminator Armour with Combi-bolter and Power Weapon
. Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod: Frag Assault Launchers

+ Troops +

Terror Squad [275pts]: 9x Executioner, 10x Volkite Charger
. Headsman: Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Nostraman Chainglaive

Terror Squad [275pts]: 9x Executioner, 10x Volkite Charger
. Headsman: Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Nostraman Chainglaive

Terror Squad [350pts]: 7x Executioner, 7x Heavy Chainblade
. Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod: Frag Assault Launchers
. Headsman: Artificer Armour, Melta Bombs, Power Fist

+ Fast Attack +

Xiphon Interceptor [210pts]
Chaff Launcher

+ Heavy Support +

Leviathan Siege Dreadnought Talon [410pts]: Legion Dreadnought Drop Pod
. Leviathan Siege Dreadnought: Armoured Ceramite, Cyclonic Melta Lance, Heavy Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Leviathan Siege Claw

Rite of War: Terror Assault

++ Total: [2497pts] ++

Would be great to understand the pros/cons of either list. Bearing in mind I'm playing in a 3v3 so my allies could cover me from the aerial side of things.

Many thanks,

The Sicaran Venator is cheaper, but also does only one thing and often it isn't that spectacular. The Leviathan though... jeez, it is a monster. Also, def grab the Phosphex for it. Worth it!

Chaff is a waste on the Xiphon - go for GTA to help it pop armor if it doesn't have air targets.

You can go for Infiltrating squads - the only drawback is a reduced Pod count, but that is hardly an issue, as they are close enough to factor into the first wave generally.

Not sold on that Heavy Chainblade squad still.

Generally though, you should be fine. Unless you are doing competitive 1-on-1, tweaking the list further isn't that important. Your list will suit a narrative game nicely.

Thanks again Em. Very helpful comments.
