Representatives of the Chinese and European space agencies have discussed collaborating on a moonbase and other possible joint endeavours, according to spokespeople and media reports.

The base on the moon in Destiny is Chinese in origin. Everything is going according to plan.

But how can we colonize the moon when the Nazi's area already there? Seriously? Who wants to live with moon nazis! Even if you manage to not be purged the property values are going to be worthless

I would rather deal with moon Nazis than mooning Nazis.

Also, will this kickstart Americas desire to have a moon base? What about Russia? Will we see a new space race?

Would be good. We learned and advanced so much during the space race.
Plus we can maybe spend some of our goliath military budgets peacefully.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

No space battle ships with wave motion guns. Giant mecha or flying cars and moon bases.

This is an outrage, an absolute outrage. That video…
IT USES FOOTAGE AND MUSIC FROM IRON SKY 1 AND PRETEND TO BE A TRAILER FOR IRON SKY 2!

Also Laibach gave a concert in North Korea. Very important.

Fantasyland. We're going to be too busy murdering each other for fresh water soon to worry about living on the moon.

Yeah, China totally doesn't want just access to the ESA's tech to further their space ambitions as a patriotic show of prowess.

Not that it would happen anyways. Too much military interest is tied up in space tech for them to risk sharing important tech in some of these fields. China still has territorial (resource) ambitions and has shown little interest in stabilizing its sphere of influence to be trusted that much.

Lol least a moon base would advance US technology and develop future industries and engineering.

It won't matter until someone knocks one of our flags down. Once that happens we will have new moon missions, because we can't have our flag (even a bleached out version) touching the ground.

If China could fill big boots, they wouldn't have let North Korea get out of control. They need the largest army on earth just to keep their own population under control.

Now Japan is revising its 'defense only' military policy because of North Korea. Somehow I doubt militarized Japan will risk N.Korea getting long range nukes up and working, even if it means Seoul gets turned into a sea of fire.

The North Korea situation has nothing to do with military strength, from anyone. China and the US could both destroy North Korea if international politics worked like a tabletop miniatures game and such a war could ever happen, the issue is that nobody wants to deal with the chaos and suffering of a destabilized and leaderless North Korea. South Korea would take heavy civilian casualties before North Korea's artillery could be silenced, a horde of starving refugees would cross into China, and someone would have to take on the responsibility of restoring North Korea to something resembling stability. It would be like Iraq/Afghanistan all over again, except with an even worse starting point. And for what gain? Marginally-relevant territory? An economy that can't even feed its own citizens without help? Why would any sane country want to own North Korea, outside of South Korean hopes for cultural unity?

No, the reason China doesn't do anything about North Korea is the same reason the US doesn't: containment and waiting is the only reasonable policy.

Somehow I doubt militarized Japan will risk N.Korea getting long range nukes up and working, even if it means Seoul gets turned into a sea of fire.

Somehow I think you're wrong, especially given the ugly history between Japan and Korea and Japan's reliance on having good relations with more powerful nations.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Big boots also means having the diplomatic and economic levers to control a situation. Power isn't one dimensional. North Korea only exists as it is today because China enabled it under the assumption that an unstable nation ruled by a crime syndicate was a better option than a unified Korea. Right now, China is the only nation that has the potential to rein in North Korea without using military force, and the only nation the North Korean military might listen to.

Uh, the ugly history is exactly why Japan won't care if South Korea gets wrecked, so long as Japan doesn't get nuked again. A militarized Japan is super bad for both North Korea and China (and Russia). China would be better off with a unified, US backed Korea on their border than an offensively armed Japan off their coast.

That is because have a nation there is better than having a United States allied Korea at its border. China is trying to rein in North Korea through diplomatic and economic means, but are hampered by the fact that they also need to keep North Korea a stable, functioning country. Declaring total trade embargoes doesn't work because when North Korea stops importing food, its the common people that suffer, and when they suffer they start to flee into China. The situation is complex and multifaceted and will not be solved by countries bullying each other into compliance.
Somehow I doubt militarized Japan will risk N.Korea getting long range nukes up and working, even if it means Seoul gets turned into a sea of fire.

What?

No seriously, what?

Japan is an island nation that has a tiny population compared to China. It has limited resources and would only be able to attack from certain directions, making things like missile defense systems possible. A United States backed Korea puts the world's superpower, with all the resources, manpower, and technology the West has to offer, right next to you connected by a land border. Military bases in South Korea are already a massive worry in China and the deployment of THAAD has caused a lot of coverage within the Chinese press. How are the two situations comparable?

Still waiting for Godot.

You're giving humanity too much credit. We don't really kill each other for life-sustaining resources as much these days, so much as petty political, ideological, cultural, and religious differences. I suppose we've fought over oil, but I really wouldn't want to be drinking that!
