Just based on all the releases, I'm guessing it'll be Space Marines vs Death Guard, which I'm totally down for. Aside from that, what else do you think will be in there?

-Rulebook?
-Intro to play and a couple missions
-No more templates!! (Can't tell if I love this or hate this)
-Maybe some cardboard terrain?

Tin cans vs. tin cans. This would be a bad idea.
Maybe they issue the boxed set as a board game first.

Except there is no precedent to release plastic Sisters unless they were going to toss in the Saint and we both know the ludicrously overpowered Saint is not making it in a starter box.

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!

Another Space Marines vs Chaos Marines for the third time in a row is a little tiresome, to be honest.

I always prefer the old WHFB starter because they always bring to the table different armies. The 40k ones ALWAYS had Space Marines in one, but 3 editions with space marines vs skipy/bloated space marines is a little boring... I always look for starter sets, I normally love the monopose units they bring, and is the foundation I always use to start new armies. But this is meh...

For what the starter will be, I think Nu-marines and Death Guard is preti obvious, and for the contents I think something like that rumour that was basically putting as "starter content" something aproximate to what you can see in that photo with a dude and a girl playing.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Sadly I agree with everyone else, I think it will be death guard vs. Ultramarines, but like dark vengeance, they will mix it up by adding daemons of Nurgle to the death guard who will, of course, be fighting against the Ultramarines. Maybe they will also include those true scale marines that are supposed to be the sons of Guilliman, or could just be custodes in ultramarine colors since he is basically the emperor now.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

3 Editions? 6th and 7th were the same box and 5th had AoBr.

And SM and CSM are arguably the easiest armies to start. Easy to put together, paint, play at beginner-level. Why wouldn't assume the starter box is those two armies?

Maybe they'll do more than one starter set? The core rules are going to be short and free, they are getting rid of templates and so if they get rid of scatter dice there won't be much special to put in a starter set anyway.

They haven't said what the five books will be, so maybe they'll have different starter sets that each include two of the "compendiums" and the core rules?

On their new website they list six active war zones (Ultramar, Damocles, Baal, Armageddon, Fenris, Cadia). Maybe they'll release a starter box for each war zone?

They probably won't release six different starter boxes, but it would be cool if they did.

6th, 7th and 8th. 3 editions with Space Marines vs Chaos Space Marines.

And I'm totally sure that they will be the box, I wasn't negating that. I was just saying that personally I find it boring to have that setup for a third time.

I don't see anything wrong with a Death Guard vs. Ultramarine boxed set. As mentioned they are mostly for players new to Warhammer 40K to see what they game is about.

I don't know what came before Dark Vengeance (my entry into 40K) and don't much care. I understand veteran players would like access to less expensive (and even new models), but that is another type of product or discussion.
