I was looking at the pdfs for the Arkanaut Frigate's Heavy Sky Cannon and the Grundstok Gunhauler's normal Sky Cannon, they both have the same stats.
Is this a mistake in the pdfs?

It seems super odd, but nope. They are in fact the same stats.

Sisters and Wolves 4000
~4000 points of Skaven
~2000 Kaptain Gitklaw's Grots
~2400 Kharadron Overlords
4x Imperial Knights

The only difference in firepower between the frigate and Gunhauler is the frigates 2 extra (until it has taken enough wounds) carbine shots.

The real difference is the frigate is a transport with 5 more wounds than the gunhauler. That is where the 60 point difference is.

the Gunhaulers are a bit more reliable in melee though with the Fragmentation Charges alongside the belaying valves, which actually gives it 3-8 hits in melee, which is better than the frigate...

though if it's in melee you did something wrong...

Though now here's the question for the Gunhauler: Sky cannon or Drill cannon?

Very Interresting question! Personally I will go for the drill Canon on the one I'm getting tomorrow. I know it's got a worse to wound than the canon, but rend -3 is just so rare and awesome. D6 damage is great. But with my luck on damage rolls I would frankly rather have a garanteed 3 damage, with the possebility of extra mortal wounds on a 6 to wound, plus I just think it looks cooler.
Btw. Has anyone found a way to justifice taking a Gunhauler over other stuff? I'm adding one to my army? But thats only because I like the model and the drillcanon

Gunhaulers serve as ablative wounds for your Frigates and Ironclads and they do not have a depreciating profile while the Frigate and Ironclad do. On top of that they are not behemoths, they are about as effective as frigates at range, and they cost 60 points less.

I plan to run two of them sandwiched between my Ironclad and Frigate so the big ships share an additional 20 wounds.

Well at least the Arkanaut Ironclad's Great Sky Cannon has an extra 6" range

Interresting. I guess that will be a 2500 point list with that many ships? What's your take on the sky Canon vs. Drill Canon?

The Sky Cannon is quite good considering it is a cannon and it is the same cannon that is mounted on the more expensive Frigate. With that said, the Drill Cannon brings a level of certainty that the Sky Cannon does not. A flat 3 damage instead of D6 and a killer -3 rend instead of the Sky Cannon's still good -2.

The way I see it the Drill Cannon is more consistent in wounding and the damage that it deals but the Sky Cannon can prove pendulous due to the lower rend and higher potential damage. If you only take one, I think the Drill Cannon is the safer buy. Since I am taking two Gunhaulers, I am gambling with one of them and taking a Sky Cannon. This also pairs nicely with the Frigate as they share the same cannon (the Skyhook seems like a bust for an army that wants to keep range and dance around the 18" marker) and allows for my Ironclad to mount the Volley Cannon since I already have several cannons in the list.

It would have been more interesting I think, if instead the skyhook pulled the enemy unit closer rather than the ship closer to the enemy.

Pulling the unit closer for the rest of the army to shoot at would be more safer for the duardin.

Agreed. That would be a lot more usefull and make more sence for this army..

They would have needed to reduce the firepower of Kharadron shooting to compensate for being able to do that; pulling units out of formation is a very powerful ability.

It's one of those abilities that made 4th edition CSM great for pulling things out of cover just to absolutely murder them.

Yeah it would be quite powerfull, but that is the only way it would make sence taking it over the canon imo

I would've suggested they give it an ability to use in the Hero phase that lets it hook terrain to give itself 2D6 movement or the ground for D6 movement.

I don't see it as a bad option at all. Especially for a frigate trying to transport some 4" move infantry across the board, and the 'abortion long as it ends closer' restriction is pretty flexible.
