I recently just got into the hobby. I tried to start back in Battle for Maccarage. No dice. But, either way I am here now. I am confused about how to build the models. Does it matter what Arms I attach to the model. I am trying to sort all of this out but confused. I bought the Start Collecting Orks, a pack of Boyz, two pack of Lootas and a pack of Gretchin. I am confused about building the Nobz from the start collecting set. I built the Loootas with the machine gun like weapons. The Boyz I am not so worried about. Because ya know you always need more Boyz. I suppose what I am confused about is do my models need to reflect what weapons I pick from the codex? I have heard most players do not care what the models have as long as the army list is told. I am trying to figure out things. Also, I am confused does it matter how I paint them? I have been looking through the codex and they seem to be pushing bad moons. Does it matter what color the orks are? As far as the shirt material goes? I understand with the vehicles the red paint job cost points and gives a move bonus. Thank you for your time and any insight you can give. Have a good one.

Take your codex back to the shop for a refund. 8th edition is imminent and all codexes are becoming invalid.

We don't really know enough about the new weapon profiles yet to make recommendations. But yeah, in general you want your models to by WYSIWYG.

I would advise you stick the weapons you want from the Codex onto your models, most players like to see what they are fighting in my experience.

As to painting, no you can paint the Ork clothes however you like. Feel free to be creative!

You can pick a clan to get an idea of the correct colours;

Evil Sons = Red, wavy yellow dags (like a triangle pattern)
Goths = Black, black and white checked pattern
Snakebites = Brown, blue and yellow dags
Deathskulls = Blue
Blood Axes = Brightly colour camo prints
Bad Moons = Yellow

But there are free bootas and other tribes so essentially any colour is fine.

Word to the wise through, thin your paints and try selecting a small colour palette as using evey colour under the sun quicky ends up looking like a mess.
Have a look for the famous GW painter bloke Dunan Rhodes on you tube for some painting tips, particularily the ones dealing with the Battle of Vedros starter set painting.

Cheers

I ordered the Codex with in a certain window so got a refund for it. So as far as weapons go then. Saying I change out a choppa for a two hand gun on a boy. Do I lose the chance to melee? Also, with looking at the different ranged weapons options for the boyz it looks like the BS doesn't change just the range and damage.

Equipping 2 guns is not normally done. Need to see what the 8th ed rules are to be sure, but typically you'd have a pistol in one hand and a CC weapon in the other.

I meant if I chose to equip a Shoota instead of a Blasta and Chopa or a Big Chopa instead of a blasta.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
