So I wanted to get an idea of the general thoughts on the Mechanicum faction, from the view point of Astartes players.

In other venues, I've seen a lot of people say they aren't that powerful, but my personal experience with them is that in the hands of a competent player, they're nigh unbeatable. So what are your guys experience in dealing with them?

In my experience if you can get into their faces fast enough they tend to melt, if you try to stand off and have a gunfight you will usually lose.

I had a game against them today, 3k. Used an Ironwing list, and it was my most successful game so far. I still lost, but a phyricc victory would be the only way to explain it for him.

What type of builds do you usually see?

As primarily a mechanicus player, I see their advantage lies in easy access to ap3-2 weaponry, with a trade off in armor saves and numbers.

Units typically rely on toughness, not armor and the cc units tend to lose out versus comparable marine units. Conversely, the disciples of the machine god can easily outshoot anything short of quad mortars.

That isn't to say that you can't run a cc list, it's just the feel is far different from a marine cc list. It's more like the old dakkafex army feel.

There is enough customization now that you can have a wide variety of play styles, there isn't one netlist to compare to all the marines.

They are generally fearless, but often have gods-awful leadership.

which seems irrelevant right up until a single psychic shriek wipes out half a battle-automata unit, or dominion stops three darkfire cannons from even snap firing.

With them having adamantium will, it doesn't make it an assured kill.
